Back from my week away, mini almost faultless (if you ignore no indicators and occasionally al cut outs) and I am now fully confident on motorways and other big roads :) a successful and very fun week!

Excellent! It's lovely down there. Went that way before to get a ferry from Lymington over to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.
Glad the Mini managed it and that you are getting more confident with your motorway driving.

Bitten the bullet and booked the car in for a professional 3 stage polish tomorrow. What's the after-maintenance? Was just going to use Autoglym Extra Gloss protection.

We shall see. I figured by the time I'd paid for the materials/equipment and factoring in it will take me a fair few hours (which I just don't have spare) it seemed a reasonable one-off.

Do the bulb holders in the rear lights disconnect anywhere? They seem to be soldered in and it dosent look like the light cluster will come out without cutting the wire.

There should be some bullet connectors in the wiring loom that runs through the boot that you can disconnect. The lights come out with about 6 inches of wire attached to them.
