I have a pair of 10cm Sony Xplod coaxials and a pair of 13cm Kenwood coaxials in my dash, powered from my Sony CDX-F7500 head unit. I have a pair of Pro-Audio 6x9's in my rear shelf powered my a Mutant NW280SP amp and another powering the 12inch NW1250SB sub.

What did you think of the sound minicooperman?

(maybe i should ask some of the other people who were in the tunnel?! IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!! )

Okay firstly keep it simple, don't put too many speakers in as there will be no advantage to it and it also buggers up the sound.

If you aint got much cash stick a set of 5" coaxials up front, there are lots of decent makes out there for very reasonabel money. If you aint got much cash go for pioneers or kenwoods or something like that, if you can stretch a few quid further go for some JBL's.

kenwoods
JBL's

As for a sub go for either a 10" or a 12", the larger subs usually have the ability to drop lower without distortion but won't be as punchy (depending on enclosure type of course) so its down to your music choice and listening taste.
Again if you aint got much cash go for something from the pioneer or kenwood stable, i've had very good results from budget pioneers in the past running in ported enclosures. If you can stretch to a few quid more again i'd go for JBL.

budget kenwood
JBL

As far as amps go this is where it can get expensive, the rule is really you get what you pay for, when i first got into car audio i bought a rather cheap 'mosfet' amp (you knwo the one in metallic purple). lets just say they are not the best in the world and get very hot and eventually cut out never to work again, they all had fairy tale power ratings and i even destroyed their supposed 480watt jobby with a 150rms phase linear sub. The next amp i bought was a pro-plus they offered good quality with decent output for little money but were lacking in features. The last amp i bought was a mono kenwood jobby which i'm still running today it cost me £140 but is 6 years old now and still works without hassle. You need to buy an amp which has at minimum the same rms rating as your speakers (but preferably a little more) so that you don't damage your speakers by underpowering them. All to often i see people buy decent subs with a 300watt rms rating only to power them with a cheap amp and end up wrecking their sub.

bang on philster, just right

ive always said that theres not much point in cramming in a load of I.C.E in a mini and a cheap set up like that will be absolutely fine

Im putting a far amount of money into a sound system, and the way I was going to do it was a set of 13cm components in the front probs about £80, A set of 6*9 of about the same pennys, A rockford fosgate punch p2 sub and everything amped. But talking to experts and people with high quality systems, I was told again and again not to have 6*9 and just a really good set of components. You will get a clearer sound and over all better quality

Well what i was thinking was having components in the front replacing the air vents and 6x9s either under the seats or in the rear shelf powered by an amp... i saw this set up on a mini at drag wars and the sound was excellent. The 6x9s he used was Fusion and were on the shelf.

Im at a budget and dont want to overspend and i may have to get a new hu so i can have the amp connected.

whats better 6x9s and components or a sub and components?

Sub and components definately,

When you first hear a set of 6x9's when all you've had is standard speakers you think 'wow they sound really good' but then you listen to a simple setup with just front speakers and a sub and you throw your crappy 6x9's in the bin!

ah right ok, at the moment the speakers i have give out a clear sound even if turned up loud... all im after really is some more bass.

so a sub powered by an amp would solve this...?

the speakers are currently on the rear shelf, (i wasnt keen on cutting room for 6x9s anyway) would i need more in the front? i guess i would.

from the pic you should just beable to see my speakers.
