Hi,
i was wondering if you could provide me with some information and/or advice.

i am 15 and have almost rebuilt with my dad a 1973 mini for when i can drive but i was wondering how much would the insurance be for different sized engines:

998cc
1275cc
1300cc
1380cc
1450cc

because i am thinking about buying something bigger then my 998cc but don't know what i will get insured for at age 17/18

Thanks

ive just got insure on my 1979 1100 through adrian flux with NiG and it came to £777 and im 22 and have been driving 3 months

Mine's 800 quid with 0yr no claims at 19. Getting 1 year this next month. I have 3 years on bikes but they wont take that. Thats with NIG with a 1990 Mini 1000 with stage 2 kit etc.

Well i know footman james does classic insurance for young drivers - All you need is a full licence - They don't insure provisionals.

My classic insurance was £750 on a 1986 City e with a stage 1 998 and all other mods declared - Wheels, arches, interior, spotlights etc. With me being 17 no NCB and being the owner of the car and policy. The only limit was 4500 miles a year or it could pay an extra £180 for 6500 a year. I thought that was great as the cheapest quote i got otherwise was £1200 from LV which exclude any mods at all.

I also asked about fitting a 1275 engine and they said a bog standard 1275 would cost me an extra £80 - Bargain!

With alot of classic policys you have to ring up to get a quote - They can't give you one online and alot of the time will even say on the website 25+ only. This only applies to online quotes in my case.

i swear when i called footman james up they rejected me for being under 25 or something silly. they just plain didnt like me >_<

I pay £162 fully comp on my 998, that's with 3 points and a claim, I'm 28 though. Theres nothing wrong with a 998, they're brilliant, so much fun.

Im insured with footman james, and i pay £500 a year, for third party fire & theft im 18, that is on a 1985 998 mayfair, with alloy wheels, air filter and exhaust declared, i didnt think that was too bad considering it has got breakdown cover and stuff on it too! adrian flux were the next cheapest at £985
Just shop around it pays off!

An engine swap will increase your premium, significantly so if you are a young / new driver.

As has been said once or twice, if you want to know how much insurance costs, go to insurance companies. If you want to know which are good insurance companies, you could search "insurance" but it will bring up a million topics started by people who didn't use the search function, so try searching "THE insurance thread". There is a long comprehensive list of Mini-friendly insurers :dontgetit:

Footman james insurance company is brill... I am 17 and i pay £600 for unlimited mileage (848), my mate pays the same for a 998, and i think the 1275 is £700

I was just wondering how much peoples insurance went up when upgrading to a 1275,
I cant get a quote now because its too late at night. I was just curious and I did search, its just a load of people enquiring abouit who the cheapest are.
