I've had the master cylinder go after having the MoT done. It passed the brake test easily at the time, I was there and saw the results! Basically, whilst it's only just gone through an MoT you can''t tell when somethings going to go.

If it's master cylinder you haven't got a chance at complaining. Just make sure you replace it with a good one(new)

Without being a bit more specific about what was wrong I say it's a bit unfair to be slating a company.

This isnt the first thing done wrong on my mini that this guy has done.. just the most serious..

What else has gone wrong, I wouldn't be happy with this and tell him to sort it.

Update:
Master cylinder was empty of fluid.. either have a leak or the guy never topped it back up.. the break pads or something was put on back to front also.. So just waiting now.. he is filling it up with fluid putting the backwards parts back right again and if the breaks are fine then i dont need a master cylinder but if there is any play at all then i need one.

Petrol gauge had no sender.. he just put a piece of metal in its place and left it there..
No dash lights
No indicators.. he had placed the flasher unit in some stupid place
Suspension was put on wrong (cones werent put on correctly) they had basically imploded on themselves..
Loads of loose wiring where he had replaced wires and then just left the old ones.. had 2 sets of wiring where should only be one..
He had wired one speaker off the other instead of a seperate line
My window washers dont work on the steering wheel.. instead he has wired it off onto a switch under my dash..
He has changed my fuse box into a different one.

Probably find few more in january when i take it in for full check over

I do feel your pain but i also agree with T.Harper...

When you brought it you could/should of checked indicators, lights and washers. In fact on the test drive you should of had to use the indicators at some point!
I think there is a lesson to be learnt here, check over a car with a fine tooth comb before you buy! OK, so i guess it may of been hard to spot such things as the suspension adn breaks, but there must of been fluid in the resovoir when you brought it, other wise you wouldnt of had any breaks at all. And if things were put on back to front i would imagine that the breaks wouldnt of been that great, in which case, either get them looked at or dont buy it.
Sorry im not having a go, just i have seen alot of threads recently slating sellers, and in some cases i think the buyer could/should of looked the car over more thoroughly before handing over hard cash.

because.. she was adorable..

But seriously i didnt really know what to look for apart from obvious places of rust and i was actually out when the cash was handed over

Buying a mini you all know there are going to be tweaks here and there.. just didnt expect a bodge job

Personal touches ay.. >_<

I would say it should have learn't you a lesson then!!!

When you buy a car check it!!! Im not having a go my clutch went on my old disco after topping up the slave cylinder and bleeding it it was like new i convinced myself it was a tempory fix as it must be leaking but it wasn't >_<

If you have a nosey around the master cylinder you might be able to see if its leaking brake fluid is does damage as i found out when i finnished the Inno got it MOT and Tax and then the master cylinder let go and took the paint with it :D

Did you ask the garage what they meant by drilling through a cable?

I personally would have checked the brake fluid level when going to look at it, just like you check the water level and the oil to see if its clean. Its all part of checking the car over before you buy it. Although, with the brake pads thats a bit more difficult to check without taking the wheel off!

How long have you owned the Mini for?

Thats fair play man. Maybe its worth taking someone along wiht you the next time you buy a car. Im sure for petrol and beer monies someone on here local to you would be more than happy to come give an honest opinion of a car your thinking of buying!
