just read the first post again, dont make the weels stick out, you will get stopped by the coppers! dont know what the penalty is for it, if you just get a warning or what not, you have to have the tread of the tyre covered by law! (voice of experience again, as i brought the mini with standard arches and wide wheels, PC plod didnt like it, he was nice though, just told me to sort it asap!)

as long as over 3/4 of the tyre tread is covered then you are OK. this topic has been done to death on Retro rides forum so hunt there for further detail

Aah yea I see. 7" is that right!? I believe you. Just mine are a standard 3.5", is that right? Probably the reason why I'm sliding around these country lanes. Could you recomend a good place to pick up some tyres..
You got any more pictures of your wheels?

dont go to the big dealers of tyres like kwick fit, use one of the mini spares dealers, like min-its, minispares, huddersfield spares etc, they seem to be a fair bit cheaper!

yeah, ignore the mud and dirt, it hadnt been washed for a while!

found this one i uploaded a while back clicky

just my 2p here. if you want deepdish, id go for 12x6 rather than 13x7, and save up a bit more and get some decent rubber too, makes all the difference. 13's are said to have more wear on suspension components, put the tracking out a fair bit, and carb quite badly. with 12x6 you get pretty much the same looks, you cant really see the difference and some may even say they look more in proportion for a mini, yet theres less modification to your mini, its better on suspension and youll probably find it handles better too, especially in the wet. 13's are awful in the wet! you more drive on the water than through it. but spending more on the rubber will help this.

this isnt coming from a 13" hater, i had them on mine as you can kinda see from my sig. but i will be putting 12x6 of the same style back on once ive finished her, purely because i think its the better option.

suspension needs to be fully adjustable to dial out tramlining and torque steer. i run 7x13's on my redtop clubby and handling is super. people think they can simpy bolt on bigger wheels and everything will be fine

Thanks for that information, that's a great help Oli! I'm very new to Mini's and personalising mine at the moe. Could you recommend some good rubber? and where you think the best deals are at the moment? Dont I need to change the speedomator if I'm putting bigger wheels on? Mine right now are 156/60R what ever that means.

If you are putting some new rubber on then buy Yoko a048R's, yes expensive, yes wear out quick but have grip like an experienced massage parlour worker and look damn sexy too.

Also these are excellent in the wet as well as the dry. Do NOT buy 539's just because they are cheaper, they are a poor tyre (incomparison).

If you have the 13's, hit with stick and stretch some 048r over them and roberts your mothers brother

unsure as to exactly what tyre but yoko's are usually a fair bit ahead of the rest. If Dev says the a048R's stick in the wet aswell, id say its very much worth it.

not sure where the best deals are to be honest. try all the usual places; minispares, minisport, huddersfield spares, midland wheels. can also find some nice and sometimes unusual things on ebay.

you dont want to change your speedo. it will read a little bit out, i think my actual speed was 10% less than my indicated speed or something, so at least i wasnt speeding. you can send it somewhere to get recalibrated if you want to, but your not breaking any laws by not. and i dont know where you do this so someone else will have to say.

there was a thread recently about what the things on tyres meant, god knows where its gone though. 156 is the width i think, and the 60 is the profile. could be wrong! mine on 13x7's were 190/55 i think.

eg, the falkens on my mini read 165/70R10 72H which is..

165/70, tyre width and profile
R - Radial
10, Beed diameter ( ie wha wheel it fits )
72 is the load index ( which relates to 355kg )
H - Speed index ( upto 130mph )

I've recently changed from 12x6 to 13x7 and the main difference i've felt are:

12x6:

Feels more nimble (which is what most people regard as 'handling'
Smoother over bumps
Lighter

13x7:

A fair bit harder over bumps - Definatly don't absorb as much shock so are probably harsher on suspension
Far more grip - Much better through corners - The grip goes on for ever and the car just seems more 'composed' during hard cornering - It stays flat.
Better grip in the wet especially during braking!
Look far better
They are a fair bit heavier though.

Both wheels will require body mods (cutting of wing) and in my opinion 13x7 - even if they do put more strain on the suspension system are worth it.

Really you should keep your suspension in good working order anyway so any pre-mature wear should easily be spotted and on a mini is cheap enough to repair - £7 and about 2 hours to do both upper and lower balljoints for example (providing you have the tools)
