Did you read that they're using the end of the film as a means of celebrating the anniversary of the invention of the periodic table....interesting!!!! >_<

Hardly news though is it? It's fairly common knowledge. I'm pretty sure I've described the plot of the planned sequel in a thread here before. Saving everyone from the bus isn't the planned ending of the first film, it's the opening of the sequel. The film ends as it was always meant to. The sequel was cancelled when one of the actresses from the first film died I believe, I don't know who it was though.

if you actually listen to the commentary on the DVD, the producer himself tells you that a sequel was not made because the film didnt do very well in American.

as for the michael caine version..... what a load of bollo.... :P

there is a lot of rubbished talked about the Italian job, most of it spewed out of the mouth of that half Wit Mathew field.

just sit and listen to the DVD commentary and count the number of times that troy Kennedy martin has to correct the guy, its actually embarrassing and i wonder how he ever let it get put on the DVD.

Chinese whispers i believe they call it.

the original ending to the film was actually published in the book (again explained on the DVD). when they came to film it they thought it was too boring so they came up with the cliff hanger.

the tale that Micheal Caine is telling is a "possibility" for a sequel that never happened, NOT the planed ending

get the DVD, and actually listen to it :P

in the written version of the book they simply drive over the alps and deposit the gold in a Swiss bank account. if i remember right, they are sitting in the office at the bank and the chair turns around to reveal the mafia boss.... the end.

i think that's how it goes, I'll have to check :P

my idea for the gold retrieval is way easier! they remove their boiler suits (the drivers were wearing them!) tie them together, and in a way lassoo the gold and pull it towards them. the bus isnt going anywhere because the drivewheels are hanging in the air, but the gold is saved!
