For the summer of 2006 i want to have finished a little project i have in mind. I want to Supercharge my 1275, and i was wondering if anyone has done it or if anyone could tell me exactly whats involved in the conversion process. Im fairly handy with a spanner so im able to do pretty much everything myself. I know this is the turbocharged bit but its still forced induction so i thought i'd give it a shot.

thanks for any input

Superchargers can be done on most (if not all) A - Series and A+ engines in the 60's BMC offerd a kit superchager for the 850, these days though u can use a Bini Supercharger or a VMax Scart Supercharger for a SU carb or Spi/Mpi

Does anyone in the know fancy doing an FAQ on installing a supercharger? There's been loads of interest on this site andi think it would be helpful!

Ahhhh C**p! The only thing that was putting me off a supercharger was the fact that I thought they were quite a few hundred pound second hand! At this rate I could end up with a 1425 race mini, a Vtec and a 998 Supercharged! My insurance company would love me!

Also need a A-series block, not A+ as the old one is stronger. Also there are 5 versions of the bini supercharger. Of which only 2 are compatable. You can get the part number from stuart at v-max. But also he only charges £250 for a charger in the kit.

No, the Vmax kit is "suck through" so a normally aspirated carb is fine. CR will need to be lowered depending on boost, just the same as Turbocharging.

Also need a A-series block, not A+ as the old one is stronger

I don't think you need to worry about that, i've never heard of anybody having any trouble with blocks, it's certainly not a known weak spot of the A-Series.
It's possible the material spec of the pre A+ blocks is slightly better, but the A+ blocks had extra ribs in the casting. After all, the Group "A" Metros, 220hp and all that, were all built using A+ blocks, and i'd guess at least 75% of the high power A-series engines running today are.

Phil.
