even if you don't have a welder you can cut the old ones off your self, treat any rust inside the inner sills and prep and fit the new sills with a few self tappers

leaving your mate to just do the welding

(don't drive the car with the sills fitted this way)

Cheers for all the help everyone. Just found another little job for my welding friend - the bonnet catch thingyAttached File  bonnet1.JPG   544.86K   11 downloads
and the bit of front panel it hooks on to. Any comments on how to do this one?Hurray - we can now upload attachments - trouble is, I already seem to have reached my limit! Anyone know how I delete some of my attachments?

sorry to hijack, mines been restored with oversills but the old sills were removed and the oversills have vents drilled in them, is this ok?

Simon

Done exactly the same thing on one, cut rust out, painted rust convertor on any surface rust, painted anti rust paint on, then bitumen paint, fitted new sill..then waxoiled, reckon it will last as long as an original.

The thing about oversills is, the vents you have cut, if they are in the "lumps" of the sill, they are still not the lowest point in the sill so water can and will sit in there and rot your car. What you could do is cut the sill down so it finishes where it should and reattach it. But i'd get more knowledgable opinions on this before doing it.
