The main problem is when you've been doing it for 5 years before your first proper driving lesson! :)

i had been doing it for 4 years before my first lesson, helped no end! only had 24 hours and passed first time! apparantly the average hours needed now is about 45 - 50! so i was quite chuffed!

also helps knowing what to do when the car gets a bit twitchy if u hit a patch of mud on a country road, or diesel on a roundabout after a lorry has broken down or something! no end of my mates have thought they were the dogs bits when theyv passed, lost control and written the car off because they dont know what to do when it gets a bit mad!

none of my mates would get in the car when i passed, i think it had something to do with if it was their 1st time in the field i'd take it on 2 wheels for a while! their faces were always a picture!

yeah i passed mine in some silly amount of time, my instructor hadn't had a pass in such a short time before but mind you not many people have years of experience behind a wheel on their first lesson

tell me about it! i had a reputation at school for being "reckless" before i had even past my test! now i get my revenge when all the cocky ones have crashed into telegraph poles or written there cars of for going to fast round a bend and understeering off the road!

then again, it did go the other way, some people who were into cars and motorsport would take a lift of me over anybody else because they knew i could handle a car better than the other person driving!

Same here, I had been driving for about 5 years before I passed and got comments from people about being reckless....well I showed them! first to pass in my year and in 4 weeks!!!
I agree that I know more about how a car handles and how hard I can push it before it will spin out etc so its probably better. I loved having all my cheap cars and raggin them round the airfield but its sooo much better on the road!!
