'cause I'm self employed I can choose myself however it never works out like that. I've just agreed to do welding for a local garage between christmas and new year. Probably end up doing it at night when everyone is a sleep

I broke up on the 5th, and go back on the 5th. Work aside, being A Uni student isn't all that bad...

My boss wants us to work the mon, tue and wed befor xmas i cant do the monday because of my test but i think ill work the tue & wed so wed for me extra money

I finish on Friday, although the morning has been designated for 'fun & games' followed by going down the pub for our Christmas lunch (and a jar or three!) so last actual work will be done on Thursday. I'm then off until Jan 5th as the site is closed as it's still under construction

Next year won't be anywhere near as long as that though as the site will be live and being in retail distribution, Christmas and New Year are our peak times. It's more likely to be finish at 2pm on Christmas Eve, back on either Boxing Day or the day after, so I'm going to make sure I make the most of it this year!

That's something they can do actually.

They could choose to close for a set period (like factory shutdown) and make people take that time off as part of their annual leave.

Yep that's what we get here, You automatically get a week or how ever long we get taken out of our holidays for christmas before we even get them. same with bank holidays (although there is the option to work them)

same here! I haven't got over it yet! > with our compulsary christmas shutdown we have 13 days holiday left for the rest of the year. I repeat >. And to continue the moan, I work 8am til 5pm. We don't get paid overtime. We get time off in lieu but that's at the manager's discretion. I repeat > .

Because of how my roster has fallen this year, without booking any holidays off I've managed to bag Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, Boxing Day, and the two following days off... I'm then back in for Mon & Tues and have NYE and New Years Day off

im off from 24th till 7th jan and i only took 6 days holiday

same here...and xmas is in the middle of the two days I do...so I dont get an xmas break lol
