Had a case here where someone thought they would blank off their filler and relocated it inside the boot - worked great, looked the same apart from when you see the fuel going in the boot!

Unfortunately instead of the cheap $5 fuel cap being broken off and the fuel taken... he had the cap broken off.... as well as his boot broken into - and then his fuel stolen.

With fuel prices sky high and 99% of gas stations on compulsory pre-pay - having fuel stolen from cars is going to naturally increase.

Have you ever noticed how the pumps show how much you put in until the next customer arrives and lifts the pump? - Here you can take a plate down on paper and for $2.50 at any post office they will give you the name and address of the owner! ...not hard to watch someone spend $180 on petrol filling their tank up and then go steal their petrol that night !

I only ever half fill my tank (about $10 worth) unless I have a long trip, which is pretty rare. Most often people steal number plates - but more and more people are buying personalized number plates... having "BMW LVR" on a holden etc is pretty obvious !

I would be very interested in more information regarding the proximity alarms though! They sound like a very good idea.

went out to my mini this morning to start up my mini, and it was just turning over ,
it started but stopped near enough straight away. i took the pipe that goes to the carb of and there was no petrol getting through, so it was a trip to the garage ith the gerrycan and put that in and it started stright away.
i hate it when people knick petrol from my mini!!!!

I spoke to my brother about the proximity alarm he fitted and he told me that the sensor itself came from eBay for about £11. He then bought seperately, a timer, couple for relays, 3 position switch, a beeper and a load of wire. Quite simply, the 3 way switch allows for the alarm to be off, part armed or fully armed. The proximity sensor is connected to the beeper which gives the warning alarm if someone gets too close. It is also connected to the standard Rover perimiter alarm circuit so that if the warning beeper stays activated for X seconds then the timer opens a switch, breaking the perimeter circuit and the alarm goes off, just as if the door, boot or bonnet had been opened.

Simple really and it works very well. I've asked him to find the circuit diagrams he drew but I won't hold my breath because he's probablt binned them. All in all, he reckons it cost about 50 quid which i reckon is pretty good.

If I get anymore info, I'll post back. >_<
