Hello everyone i got my new mini

Bertie cost £950 pounds and is a 1984 austin mini mayfair with 31k on the clock (genuine not clocked)

the cars in good condtion for its age only mishap was the past owner had a hole in the rcoker cover (to clear the pervious owners webber carb) and a fan belt that split at 80mph

so anyway ive spent £150 on the restoration so far and for that its had new rocker cover, fan belt, oil change, h4 headlight convo, new fusebox, wiring loom repairs, cd play fitted with some speakers, new seats, bulbs, heater cable and some stone chip for the floor restoration

only took me 12 hours so i hope u like the pictures and any responses would be great and yes a 6ft8 oaf does fit in a 1275cc powered mini

the monitior is a dash mounted garmin sat nav makes life a lot easier the car has a few plans

the bonnets gonna be bonnet pinned, the boot will be getting an exterior handle fitted and a genral tidy up

the dash will be getting covered in metal possible copper with some good components front and back and sub under the seat and going to get a new carpet and chrome bits

engine wise 1.5 ratio roller rockers, twin su's, oil cooler and redo the igntion may fit a stage 3 head depends on whether i need to take the head off at any point

the cars going to be made into a modernised retro car that will like the motorway and love the a roads as it gets very hot when doing 84mph

anywho going to shoot off to mini sport to buy more toys or maybe just look lol bye

today ive refitted the dash with its new stainless cover, i also fixed the glove box door and added a new base it

I got a new rocker cover gasket added some instant gasket and with a lil fiddling the new cork gasket seems to have done the job

I also got some new tie rod rubber mounts

I have sikaflexed the welds on the floor and respray the entire interior floor and slam pannel in grey stone sheild its perfect for the job insulates, sound proof, paints, seals, treats some rust and also make a very thick solid barrier so in all aspects brill and looks sooo much nicer

I also fitted the bonnet pins with a lil bit of faffing drilling and grinding got it sort makes like 100 times easier to work on and using some french car supension brushes have made it raise the bonnet slight too

gonna tackle the tie rods tomorow and finish the new door, gonna be a good day tomorow i hope ;D

yeh i like the black lil arches i have now as i think wide arches would make it look steriod induced and power mad lol

maybe when ive done the disc convo, engine build and interior lol

ill get the door sorted the day and then ill post it all up

Okies rob well ill have a look when i do the flip front

anywho fitted my bonnet pins where the hinges were but in own seany c special way fitted them off center so the latch didnt line up 100%

so here are the pics from the afternoon after fitting

anywho needless to say the bonnet wouldnt stay shut aka the latch would shut and then 10 mins later would unlatch.
cut to me driving over the tops back to great harwood and the bonnet jumps a lili bit my sister said u want to stop i said nahh dont worry
5 mins later the wind hit the bonnet and rips the pins in half and smashed up agains the front of the car

this has damaged the scuttle pannel, killed the bonnet and made a small mark on the roof edge argggg

so i welded the brackets back on for the hinges on the very bent bonnet and have now refitted it

I wont bother rushing anything again not worth the money or hassal if i do lol

Also have some pics of when i painted the new door

had very productive day today

today i was at the M bulding as i am doing a motor vehicle course i arived today and had a talk with mark and he had booked me the rolling road for the morning :P

so me and kev took bertie down to the saturn center to do a few power runs

anywho arrived said hello got the mini strapped down and did the first power run

as the roller quietes down and i was stood outside the car i notice smoke !!!!

so I looked underneath and the smoke was billowing off the live wire !!!

i then notcie the inside of the war was filling with white electrical smoke !!!!

i put my hand threw threw the boot open to the earth wire ablaze so i disconneted the battery with a rag in my hand and put the battery next to the car !!

the first run the live wire had be resting on the exhaust and had melted all the insulation off the battery earth then had soo much ampage flowing threw it melted the wire arggg

anywho we pushed the car onto the scissor ramp to find the wire was *melonsed* so i insulated the wire and cable tied it to the subframe

i then recovered the earth wire and we fitted a spare battery we attached the bosch trickle charged and bertie slowly fired to life

i then tested the battery that was almost ablaze and it was stilll holding 12.25 volts of charge supperb

Such a near miss anywho refitted the halfords 500cca battery and made sure all the electrics were working to me joy they were all fine :P :P :)

so we did the only right thing and gave it another run (7 infact :P)

The second run was done my the dyno owner and it made 60bhp at the flywheel, then on my runs made 61 and 64 and then kev had a go he had 4 failed attempts as he kept spinning the wheels in 4th lol although on his 5th try the mini made 65bhp at the flywheel and the car has 9kw of power loss threw the gearbox so around 48-50 bhp at the wheels

i was extatic anyway i took 2 pictures one of bertie flying and one of the melted cable
and some lovely videos showing bertie making his war cry

lol :P enjoy
