idealy for sub boxes and speakes boards u wana be using 12 of 10mm thick minimum! mdf is a very good material for sub enclosures as i have made a few, made my own under seat board with 6x9s, made it a snug fit then covered it with material and put some wadding in the space behind the board and it sonds awesome! get nice bass from it because of the size of the rear enclosure, and people dont even realise i have speakers when looking at the car, try attatching the 6x9s to the other side of the board and then cover with a thin filt and this completely hides your speakers but does not stop you hearing them! its a great way to stop the pikeys smashing your nice original glass to get at your brand new speakers! lol if you want more sound try 4x6 speakers in the rear side pockets:)

boxes for speakers are pointless unless you want to 'up the bass' hence why subs have enclosures... and as a few people have mentioned the area under the rear seats works as a big box anyway.

Ypu say they sound 'miles better' but how do you know if you haven't fitted them yet?

and i tested them in my house on my amp, and also test-fitted them but they didnt fit so i made new box's and they now fit

as mentioned by others, you do not have the build an entire enclosure. all that's required is an adequate baffle and a good seal. to increase the perceived volume of the woofer, acoustic stuffing aka polyfill can be added.

here's my version of the underseat enclosure:
