On a 1980 1275 GT...

1) Was having a vinyl covering on the roof an optional extra?

2) Were two spotlamps an optional extra? As in the ones that come on with full beams.

If anyone has a handbook/data sheet on PDF they could scan in that would be great!

Cheers :) ;)

Can't you e-mail the site creator? Perhaps they'd know?

I do know that BL and Austin Rover used Unipart accessories and I've got the mid 1980's Unipart/Mini brochure, but I'm not sure if the vinyl roof is listed as an option.

Chances are it is though, along with Unipart spot and fog lamps.

I don't believe spots or a vinyl roof were optional extras on a GT. I'll check all my paperwork at home tonight to make sure.

The earlier clubbies had a vinyl roof as an option..

Cheers people, I have since found out the spotlights on the particular one I was referring to ( :P ) were put on afterwards by a garage/mechanic as there is a reciept in the history but they aren't even wired in via a relay :P so that will need to be sorted by the new owner  :teehee:

Also the vinyl roof does actually look as old as the car, I can only assume it was an extra fitted at time of purchase. :turtle:

Did you look around the edges of the roof? The vinyl not peeling or rolling at all?

There's a very slight rip about 10mm long from the edge up towards the middle. Apart from that it's all perfect.

Okay,

As some vinyl roofs are never fitted propery and after a while they roll up around the edges and bubble because of moisture and the edges of the roof end up rusting away :P

Nope, no rust at all.

Infact the only rust I could find on the car is slight surface rust on the rear subby, and a patch less than 5p of bubbling under the boot lid.

Everywhere else is immaculate

I'm sure I remember someone with a vinyl roof on a GT in the early 80's 'n I'm pretty sure there was one available for the metro too.

The seller says hes been working on them and dealing in classics for over 30 years and he is adamant that it was an optional extra. I was just curious as to whether it's true or not :P
