Children don't see things the ways teenagers and adults do. Children tend to accept people until adults point out imperfections. I see nothing wrong with this presenter and I'm sure the children watching the show probably didnt even bat an eye lid.
It's good for childrento have diversity IMO...

And only Mary Whitehouse and her 'National Viewers And Listeners Association' (or whatever they were called) complained that it was too frightening for the kiddies at the time.
Okay I'm being slightly tongue in cheek here, but yes I agree with everyone and it's a lot of nonsense to sack that woman. Kids will see and hear far worst things on TV and in school, no matter how much you try to wrap them up in cotton wool.

surely its bad enough she has a hand missing let alone parents pointing it out, complaining and trying to sack her

Well I have to admit that back in 1975 this frightening looking bloke with no eyes (except for a blue electric replacement on his forehead), one arm, a very scary sounding voice and an electric armoured wheelchair did more than frighten me. Yes it scarred me for life, especially as he was an absolute racist who developed a race of hate filled super creatures contained in killing machines: -

My Headmaster at school, from the age of 7 'til 11 had only one hand (Mr Blackman - I think he might have been gay too, in hindsight, but I shall never know for sure

He used to play the piano brilliantly with his stump & assemblies were cracking.
I don't remember anybody whinging that we could all see the fact that he had less-than-the-ordinary-number of hands. (But that was the 70s-80s).
My friend Helen only has one leg & she whips her falsie off in public when she gets tired & needs to give her stump a bit of a massage. It's great! We just get surrounded by kids going "Oooooooooooh!!"

Talking about private schools, have you seen the classic 1968 film called 'If' starring Malcolm McDowell (of A Clockwork Orange fame)?: -

The Bowie track has been added by whoever created this trailer, because that song doesn't appear in the film since it was recorded some 3 years after this film got made!: -

I believe this was his first film, it was made in 1968 and is about the way kids were treated and behaved in upper class public schools. But this is the late 1960's and Revolution was very much in the air, so the ending pretty much fitted well with the times. It's also quite surreal as it flits from colour to black & white every so often and there's a very provocative scene in a cafe between Malcolm and the girl you see on the roof shooting everyone on the ground at the end.
Here it is and it's about 5 minutes in after he gets his face slapped: -

(Oh and spot the Minis passing by and the one in the showroom window! Plus at 9 minutes in, it looks like the teacher is working underneath a Mini?)

Yes! Yes it was. That was the junior school. The senior school was even more interesting. My maths teacher was convicted of making & supplying kiddie porn (he ran the Junior & Senior Photgraphy Club

Somehow I'm an entirely normal & well rounded Scientist....

"whys she got a funny arm?"
and NOT
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!"
then when its explained to her, she'd say: "oh..." and then carry on watching or playing.
it seems that there's so many parents that want to keep their children wrapped up in cotton wool.
Scrog has got it totally right! thats the way my parents were brought up and the way i've been brought up, and thats how i'll bring up my children (when and IF).

Perhaps they should make a film all about that, because it makes the content of 'If' seem quite tame by comparison!
