did ya know it was nick mason who asked david to join the band as they were growing tired of syds behavior

And that pink floyd were first told by all the critics that they were too loud ,haha

i know taffy will know that but its facts for bec haha

No I never knew that it was Nick Mason who asked David Gilmour to join. As for Syd's behaviour, well I've seen it on the documentaries and Roger Waters stated that on the one hand they were very concerned, but on the other they wanted to kill him for messing up their first American tour. I think they also believed that after a few days, weeks or months that he'd recover. But of course he never did and they literally had to drag him kicking and screaming to the doctors to get diagnosed.

As for the critics complaining about the noise, well I know of this episode here and Syd seems very well spoken?: -

And yes RIP Syd, nice touch at the end there.

But that sad and pathetic critic was complaining after they'd played the first track off their first album 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn': -

I've just found the full interview and a much better quality video: -

Don't know if the comments about that critic are true about him being an ex-Nazi and later getting hanged in a Spanish prison?

LOL, yes but he certainly deserved hanging for not appreciating their talent.

But what did he know, they went on to become multi-millionaires, so he's the one whose totally wrong.

Yes it was a bit like asking Mary Whitehouse for her opinions on a sex film or something?

I mean she took offence to a line in the lyrics of The Beatles classic 'I Am The Walrus', plus she campaigned for years to get Doctor Who banned as she claimed it was turning British children into a nation of bed wetter's. LOL

:shifty:

So I wonder what she'd have thought about Pink Floyd or even the film version of 'The Wall'.

Thanks for posting that and yes I watched that alright and just like the Mini, they were far ahead of their time and also became legendary.

Sadly in part II is where it started going wrong for Syd Barrett: -

0FG6sRMCbTw

:shifty:

You'll also here from Roger the story where Syd said how 'John Lennon Wouldn't Put Up With This!' As I mentioned earlier.

Shame these YouTube video's are out of sync though.

You'll also notice the exotic car collection photo's behind Nick Mason. Well he also once owned a Mini Cooper S (a 1990 JCG Cooper S converted Mainstream as it happened) and it recently appeared in one of the Mini Magz.

'Careful With That Axe Eugene' and 'A Saucerful Of Secrets' weren't my parents favourite tracks though, but I always thought they were great: -

;D

'Echoes' is just beautiful though.

;D

Then they were off to create 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' (the cardinal pillar of rock'n'roll as quoted by Bob Geldof) and become multi-millionaires.

I've just finished watching the whole lot and call me an old softy, but I had tears in my eyes seeing them get back together again after all those years and the fact they'd put the arguments and their differences aside at the end of part VI. But Syd's gone and now Rick has died they'll probably never get back together again as such?

;D

Pity all The Beatles couldn't have done similar prior to John Lennon getting murdered.

spent many a motorway journey down the m11 on a friday night in my mini with pink floyd to keep me company, unfortuantly as i was driving no mind altering drugs were being taken at the time, but it felt like i'd gone back to better times and it's something i will always enjoy listening too on long normally boring journeys.

note to myself-get mini back on road with decent stereo + fink floyd = good times

Well I never ever took drugs, because I didn't need to. No I'd get high and float away just listening to bands like the Floyd.

So don't take drugs kids, just buy Pink Floyd CD's or download them on to your I-Pods.

:)
