Tell me about it. I drive through it in my van on the way to work and when I look at my speedo its hard to beleive how well minis hold the road. Nothing and I mean NOTHING will touch a sorted Mini from point to point in Milton Keynes.

I recons my mothers car would give it a run for its money.

Theres not a lot that could take my mothers car off the line...

:saywhat: :dontgetit: :P :dontgetit: You must be jokin right!! No you dont understand...NOTHING will touch a sorted mini through Milton Keynes. A stripped out road racer weighs less than one of those and probably has alot more power and tourque. But saying that, its not the power that kills the competition here but the down right stupid levels of grip that a lowered and adjusted mini develops.

Fit a Stage one kit, a stage three head, 1.5:1 roller rockers, a 3.7:1 final drive, have it rolling road tuned and yes, it's poop your pants quick. You'd be surprised how much difference the FD makes even on a standard engine, only thing is, you engine runs higher rpm at top speeds, youd be running 5000rpm at 80mph but getting there is fun :dontgetit:

What sort of figures would i get with this set up (10" wheels)?

Like the sound of a car that needs spare pants

With a set up like that I got 78bhp at the flywheel( cant remember the quote at the wheels because everyone seems fixed on the flywheel figures which anoys me because that is a true figure and not a calculation), which was amasing considering the bottom end was standard. There's plenty of scope after that, 286 cam, +60though overbore, lightened flywheel/ crank, raised CR. It was VERY quick off the mark. The guy on the rollers was surprised at how quick it got to top speed.

When I get the chance, this new mini will also have the 3.7:1 FD. Because most of the driving is either town or country theres no need to go 90mph so by loosing the top end speed you gain in acceleration.

im not sure. Probably about that. The engine is based on a GSXR600cc motorbike engine.
I also think im right in saying it has a straight cut gearbox. or atleast it damn sounds like it!

It really is quick though. i took it for a blast the other day and own3d a fair few novas. Their faces were pictures when they give it the old...

"What ya got unda da hood mate?"

"Err, A 650cc mate"... :dontgetit:

I love conversations like this! One day you'll realise that no matter how much you love your car there will always and I mean always be something a lot quicker! Whether you can admit it to yourself is another thing! :nugget:

My old Scooby was running around the 310bhp mark (probably a little on the conservative side of the power but you get the idea) and I soon realised that there are quite alot of cars as quick if not quicker!

And having been around Milton keynes in that I'm not sure about the nothing will touch a mini point to point.... :fear:

Anyway the main thing is that you enjoy your car and appreciate others! I don't car if someone else has got a faster car than me! As long as I like mine and enjoy what does it matter!

Mind you I'm still looking forward to trying out the roundabouts of Milton Keynes in my Minus!! :dontgetit:

hehe that minus is going to be....interesting :dontgetit:

i agree with there always being something faster, its just the way it is, a mini will never ever be a blisteringly quick car, its just not got the aerodynamics, well, it has got aerodynamics...about the same drag coeficient as a 50 foot high wall

im happy with mine for the moment, keeps the chavs at bay, thats really all i created it for to be honest... (turbo next winter :dontgetit:)

Haha, I did say a modded mini and not a standard one  . One of my best mates had aN Evo 6 with yaw control, Hks manifolds, TEIN suspention (basically the works) and even he admitted he couldnt keep with me round the bends. By the time he was on boost I was at the next roundabout. The only cars I can imagine keeping up with minis round the bend are the radicals and the like. Saying that though, they are quite twitchy so when your going into roundabouts at 80+ your gunna think twice about lifting.

Id be the first to admit that the mini ent know where near the fastest thing on four wheels, but around the twisties and town(short stints) I definatly arguee they are one of the qickest once they have the works carried out on them.

its quite suprising what a well sorted mini will beat, when we go hillclimbing or sprinting, we beat a suprising number of cars with big horsepower/4wd.
ferarris, impreza's, EVO's, are all beaten by quite a margin!
i know my mates car is an all out competion car, but even roadgoing modified saloons are fair game.(tweaked engines, modded suspension)
a lad from work with a seriously modified impreza just couldn't believe how fast the mini was, it left him stunned!...we were beating them by 3 or 4 seconds, which i know doesn't sound a lot, but in hill climbing/sprinting, thats a country mile!

agreed, a reasonably nippy one like my own can stand up against things of much much more power, but then again, we arent talking standard coopers, as binge was mentioning, a standard mini isnt going to be beating much...

Let's stop talking about these junky modern Coopers, which are basically just a trim upgrade and a new bonnet badge.
A Mk1 Mini Cooper S is a seriously fast little car. Very very capable. Most of the mods we all carry out on our motors today are based on what this car ran as standard.

And regarding the Suzuki Capp,

It does indeed have a three cylinder bike derived engine. Now what's the stoopidest thing you can do to a bike engine? That's right, turbocharge it. So that's what they did.

63 BHP
63 LbFt
Redline about 8300 RPM
Kerb Weight
725 KG
Thats about 86BHP/Ton.

But that's because it's a K car (a Japanese class of car which avoids paying road tax by being small and environmentally friendly) and that means it's only allowed to produce 63 BHP. It's very capable of a lot (a real lot) more.

I don't know bike engines so I don't know why its stupid to turbocharge one!?
