Well the title has pretty much pi$$ed over my introduction but you get the idea! What would it take to beat a scubby or an Evo? Thats in a drag race, round a track, anything.

We talking a turbo? Bike engined? Vtec/Vaux conversion? Custom built one off 4WD system?

a miracle?

i reckon the fastest mini in the world (that yellow and blue thing that's got a honda or vauxhall engine) could put up a good fight unsure if it would beat it though?

are you talking about the family saloon lancer's and impreza's or the sportier models?

I would love to see a mini cain an impreza on a track! expecially a rally one! :dontgetit:

I'm talking about the sportier models, and I'm talking about a mini that is not just specialist in one area (ie. drag or track) is has to be quicker in all areas, or most! A guy just down the road from me (in fact he introduced me to Bill Richards and decent mini tuning!) has just got an Evo VI and I would love to have a mini that could beat it!

Might drop an email to Quaife and see if they could/and how much it would cost to build a 4WD system for my Vtec conversion!

I don't think even Marksminis van could beat an Evo. 150hp going through the front wheels or 400bhp going through all four?

The amount of money it would cost to do (and it would be lots!!), you might aswell just get something quicker in the first place.

Hmm, I'm thinking a 4WD system developed by Quaife mated to a Vtec gearbox (maybe Type R) would cost around 8-10k? That might have a chance??

Of the line you gonna need a lot of work! They can launch unlike anything I've ever been in!!!

Plus it's going to depend on what model your talking about. There are loads of different types of both evo and scooby.

If your talking top end then your looking to out perform an evo fq400 and an Impreza T25.

Both are astonishing cars!!! The T25 has been compared in performance to GT3, murcialago etc etc...... :dontgetit: So very very quick!!

Bearing in mind my old Subaru was a uk car (the jap sti etc has shorter gearing) and was running approx 310bhp would do a 13.2 qtr mile (did a 13.3 with a fluffed change into 3rd). You need to be doing a qtr mile in the 12.5-13.0 bracket to beat the newer quicker scoobys.

At the drag wars Dales R1 engined mini did 13.1sec qtr (although his tyres were nadgered).

Around a track.... well it's all going to depend on the size of track etc etc. The bike engined minis will only really do 130ish so scoobies will whip it down longer straights!!! (mine pulled 140mph at the top of 4th!!!!) so if you wanted a mini to whip it over any curcumstance you'll need a very deep wallet!!! :fear:

I'm sure it could be done but I wouldn't like to say how much it'd cost.

Just for comparison I'm sure in gear acceloration won't be too difficult to match as both evos and scoobies have 4wd and suffer a reasonable amount of transmission losses. :nugget:

So a lightweight car running the scooby engine and running gear? Try doing a search for the Delphino Feroce! Awesome car! Shame it never really made it to production although there are rumours it may be resurfacing soon.... :fear:

The problem is its not just about sticking a super big engine in a mini, its about getting the power down as well, especially around corners, I suppose I really want something that could beat one round a track! I'm hardly ever going to get in a situation where I need to out perform an Evo/Scubby to a top speed!

I looked into the Civic Shuttle Vtec 4WD that the guy on ringmini did, but that 4WD system suffers from quite a big power loss and supposedly isn't a great 4WD system, so I don't think I'll go that route!

On another note, does anybody remember what sort of times the Vtecs were running down the straight at Drag Wars?

As long as you stick to a track where there aren't to many hich speed sections you porbably find it won't be too hard to do. But Nurburgring for example you might struggle.... :fear: I think a properly sorted bike engined mini would do it. Mayber even Z-cars RWD Type R engined mini would be worth a look! Haven't spoken to Chris about how it handles yet though.... Buut knowing Chris it won't be too shabby

Its all very well having all the power, but don't forget that a mini has the aerodynamics of a brick, so you top end is going to be limited no matter what engine you go for.
