You sure about the X-Drill decision?

yeah, why do you say that??

its going to be quite high revving, and the x-drilling helps to keep a good supply of oil

and its peice of mind for £30ish , that the crank that i will spend quite a bit of money on wont die lol

It also Weakens the Crank quite alot, so if its revving, might cause failure.
Make sure you have a good Crank Dampner, i got a good one on ebay for a few pounds the other day

Yer a centre main is an absolute necessary as if your going to be revving you dont want that bearing housing moving at all!
I think mines just a Standard one Fitted to 1275's, although it could be the Cooper Dampner.

i plan to go for a standard gearbox, but with a x-pin diff and a 3.44 final drive, as i do a fair bit of motorway driving and find it a good compromise between acceleration and cruising at speed.

but i will be going for the straight cut drops.

maybe in the future i can get a close ratio box or gearset

i am realy not sure what to do now.

its a lot of money and i should realy make the most out of it

i could build a screamer of a 1380 for the price of this 1096

this may sound silly, but i actually lost sleep over it last night!!! :ermm:

its a hard decision ;)

if i did a 1380, i can always move onto a KAD 16v head in the future too

The way I think about it is that I like being different and having a tasty small bore.

I've got the rest of my life of Mini ownership and I'm going to increase the power with my age

Can't wait till I'm 60 and I'm driving with twin V8's :)

I have a fairly similar spec as your original post.

1098 crank
+40 bore (1130cc) AE 1098 pistons
12g295 head...shaved 80thou
lightened duplex chain/gears
SW5 cam
HIF38 with AAU needle
LCB
Janspeed intake manifold
3.44FD
(stock dizzy etc)

The car runs very well indeed. Lots of pull....and quick acceleration from go.
I auto cross it, so it regularly reaches 6,000rpm...maybe 6,500 (I'm too busy to look at the tach..lol)
On the highway (motorway), it cruises nicely at 110k. A 3.1FD would be nice, but I'd lose some accel.
As someone said earlier....tough to notice the SW5 at idle.....very smooth idle

I have no idea of the HP it puts out as there is no rolling road within 1000km of me.
Anyone hazard a guess as to my HP...?
