is this a bit of a pipe dream build as i looked into insuring a 1.6 and 2.0 mini and its well over £1000 a year and im 26 with full no claims and no points its cheaper for me to insure a evo8. you might wana stick with tuned a series power for a while. i wouldn't want to unleash something like that on an unexperienced driver

well, if you read far enough back... i did ok. cheaper to insure an R1 promotive with adrian flux than a 1430... well the 1430 i had. As for the 1.6 mini im 21 and its around £700... so...

 Must be looking in the wrong places for insurance mate :P
I got slightly higher quotes than Alex but I was only putting in rough details and I'm just touching 20.

My first car was a 1.6 16v escort, that cost me £900 for 9 months, so about £1200 for a year. Second car was a 1.3 spi mini, that cost £1100 for a year.
wrote that off and got a 998cc mini, that cost £800 a year. Now down to £600 a year, with a £1k claim in the last 3 years.

ah right ok. and declared to your insurance company im guessing? will be interesting to see what other quotes you get. when i had my accident i looked and loads of cars just to see my options, and a saxo vts/r (cant remember which) turned out to be a lot cheaper than some other smaller engined cars for some reason, although still not cheap! dont know why, insurance companies aren't half odd at times!

well i'm not sure yet as they are bassicaly look the same engine just one is a 1.4 and the other a 1.6 but yeah the saxos seem to have really high insurance.

true the engines may look the same but its still an engine swap and an engineer can easily find out if you do have an accident and it comes to it (engine number), apart from the fact its illegal and hence if you do get caught it may well invalidate your insurance and leave you in the *melon*. it also entitles barry boys to anally punish you! anyway im sure you know all that, but remember, despite how similar the engines look, that numbers there for a reason. i recently renewed insurance and on the forms im asked to give my engine number.

i guess saxo insurance is higher than normal as they are a boy racer weopon of choice. not dissing saxo's, just stating an unfortunate fact. but as said my quotes werent too bad for a vts/r, compared to a lot of other cars. my fav 2 quotes were for my dad's saab 9000 2.0 turbo (chipped to 230bhp) - £2100...compared to a fiat punto 1.3 turbo - £2900...eh!?

yeah i know there a boy racer type car that is why they are so high, when i got my dad to look over the engine we could not find the number.

if you had to claim third party if you caused injury / severe injury to someone else they would get to the point of measuring the bores, then the poor person you hit (or in worst case their family) would get no money from you and you would end up behind bars, dont be such an idiot and just pay for what your actually insuring, its not fair on the rest of us.
