Lol@Alex. I thought you said you preferred your R1 to your Vaux? I'd be really interested in your opinions, as you've had both so you might be able to swing me.

r1's good, very good, but IMO struggles with cornering because of weight over the front end, so you cant accelerate through corners as much as you would want too. The main problem with them is reliability, they are absolutely spastic, but not for long.

the 1.6 is working every single day, its like driving a hot 1380 at the moment, and thats only the SE 1.6 which is 100bhp (but less because its old and running a 1.4 exh manifold, so 90bhp). The one in my garage (in the pic) ill be building soon will be knocking on past 160 before the giggle gas, still be able to go to work every day and sheffield etc and put power on through corners. The one car that got past me at castle combe in the R1 was... a vaux. Plus, 2 litres are nice and all, but 1.6's dont weigh much more than an A series and are just perfect, well balanced in the car.

2 months and i should hav the new engine in, ill have a better idea of what the 1.6 16v is like in a mini, no1 has one on the road to my knowledge, so its fairly impossible to no.

Cheers for that Alex, I really appreciate the info and input. Might be something to look into more then! I was seriously considering the Vaux but was thinking 2.0, then got really into the idea of R1, but I'll be looking forward to hearing how you get on.

theres only 20bhp difference between 2.0 and 1.6 on same throttle body (money input) but alota weight difference, and clubman front difference!

I would use the +90mm round nose front from ABS if I went 2 litre, but I think depending on what you have to say regarding the 1.6 in the future, I'm now deciding between R1 and 1.6 vaux.

P.s. do you know the weight stats at all? I.e., fully built 2.0 in car, 1.6 in car, R1 in car?
A lot to ask I know but even rough estimates would be good.

Nice. Z cars also do a VTEC into a saxo conversion which looks pretty cool. But why spend money on a saxo  Scrap it and put the scrapmans money towards a phat mini :P

Yes I just used the term "phat." It's due for a comeback. I said so.

no offence to anyone who has the extended front... but i just dont like them, they just dont look right. And also clubbys look mean, love the look of richspecs, amazing.

As for weight, i did find out once but can no longer remember, should be on the home computer somewhere.

I do agree about the extended front Alex but I don't think my 30 would look right with a clubby nose.
If you find out the weights let me know, if you wouldn't mind? Cheers mate.

@Liam: I've had a 1.6 16v Escort Mexico (90bhp iirc), not the fastest thing in history but a fair sight faster than a standard mini, 2 minis (a 1.3 spi and a 998 carb). And I've driven: A Bini One, Bini Cooper, BMW 540i, BMW 530d (sickeningly quick), numerous fiestas, daewoo matiz (worst car ever bar the ford Ka), driven about 10 other minis, Skoda Fabia 1.9TD. Eeeerm... oh and I had a Daewoo Lacia or something whatever theyre called for a few weeks.Oh and a Vauxhall Cavalier 2 litre Auto.

None as much fun as a mini though =]
