They were fitted to the BMC-Nuffield 'Mini Tractor' (funny name, eh?

I hope you know how jelous I am

There's a guy in Australia running one with bio diesel & turbo in a Moggy Minor Van

I once tried t find out more - with no luck at all...
I think it is redlined at 4000rpm? Might be tricky, even with a MPI FD...
Please keep us updated!

Whilst there are similarities between it and the petrol A series they are very differnet in reality - very few (if any) parts are interchangeable. As most engines of the era were designed in a similar way they all have similarities - look at the pre cross flow Fords they are similar in places to the A series.
As said, in a car I think they would be very slow and noisy. If geared for speed they would have bu66er all acceleration (unless you had a 9 speed box like the tractors!).

Not that rare - as said it was fitted to the BMC Mini Tractor which later became the Nuffield 9/16 Tractor which later became the Leyland 154 tractor.

May be not so rare, however these engines where not fitted to the Leyland 154 that's based on the MGB 1800 engine

They must've changed after the Nuffield then - the Leyland was basically the same tractor but I guess needed modernising to 'keep up'. The Leyland stuff isn't old enough for me!!
I think the 950cc engine was only used in the first 9/16, then got a 1500 and finaly the 1800cc engine!? But then I know close to nothing about tractors

@Martin: Looks like it has 11 head studs? Do you have any more pictures of the engine? Eypecially of the head?

Oh - that sounds interesting!

Would love to see a Mini with that 'hard' pre-chamber diesel sound

I'm pretty sure that would turn much more heads than any riced up Corsa

Martin, I think this sounds like a good adress for spares:
