Just got a quick update of some of the things that have been cracking off in the last week.
Took a picture of what I like to call constructive mess!
Shifted out the spare....
Got the engine and frame in just to mock it up......
Subframe all refurbed and back from the powder coating place! Everything powder coated, Rose jointed bottom arms, uprated hi-lo's etc..
Now it got a bit more technical, Started working on the exhaust. I decided a long time ago that side exit exhausts looked awsome, and that was what it was going to be!
So after a trip to demon tweeks on saturday I ended up with this nice shiny thing. Glad the magpies werent out
The one thing I liked about this back box was the fact that it was reversble and putting it one way made it louder and the other way quieter. You can see how its done inside, one end's internal simple has raised(for want of a better word) flow barriers, and the end is flat.
Then had to calculate the angle of the side panal of the mini in relation to a straight edge. This was so the end piece of the exhaust could be cut at an angle and welded onto the backbox in a way which would allow it to sit flush with the mini body panel. Its welded on now, but this was it before (bear in mind I had to cut off one of the pipes coming off the backbox in order to weld my tail pipe on, So was out with the grinder and the tig welder:)
I cut the hole and took a picture when it was still very rough im afraid, Tis all nicely filed out now so the tailpipe just comes through.
Now, We just had to think of a way of securing the exhaust box the the panel. So fortunately for me, my good friend ben is very good on the old Autocad and 3d drawing programs. So a couple of hours round his and, we had thought of a way to secure it. This is what we(he) came up with...
This is the final design for the outside flange, There will be two the same and they are both two parts. The inner flange will be welded to the tailpipe and butt up against the inside of the panel. The outer will bolt through the panel onto the inner via the 10, 6mm holes.
These will be cut out of 1.6mm mild steel plate using a laser. Should be done tomorrow(courtesy of ben) lol.
Should look something like this when done(with a mini body panel in between)
Stay tuned,
Cheers, John
