I was going to go to guitar tech after my A levels as I've been playing guitar since I was 3. My dad advised me to get a degree in something to fall back on first though as the music industry isn't set in stone as a stable career, so I did. Plus you don't need a degree in music to be a session musician, you just need to be good and audition!

Cool what kind of music do you play chris? Ive been playing guitar scince i was about 6 and im into all sorts, Mainly the older stuff, the Beatles, kinks the stones etc, but alot of new indie too. I think it must be quite hard to actually be successful in the music industry? i guess you have to do more than one thing, like instead of just focusing on Producing, maybe Producing, studio work and dj'ing or somthing like that.
Well I have to say, I have been through every phase in the book lol! From the obvious like hendrix and led zep, to weird things like King Crimson and Ozric tentacles sort of stuff. I am also into my metal, clever stuff like Sikth etc is cool. I hit the blues phase pretty hard when I was about 14, I was ( and still am) massively into SRV, Buddy Guy, Robben Ford and any others you could think of. It's my dads fault lol, hes been giving me stuff to listen to since I was about 5 lol. When people where into the spice girs etc at scholl I was listening to Led Zep, Pink Floyd, deep purple and stuff like that lol.
Was playing in a band a couple of years back that was doing well on the modern rock circuit. Supported Enter Shikari, Hell is for Heros and InME which were awesome gigs to play. Got some of the self recoded stuff we did on the myspace at http://www.myspace.c...rpathiabandrock I just play in a covers band at the mo to make money when i'm home.
The music industryis hard to crack. You hear of people playing the circuits for years, being absolutely stunning players but never making it! They just end up being full time guitar teachers. Which is cool if you like teaching but it doesn't pay as well as a normal job if your not famous and charging the Earth for lessons lol!
The best thing to do if your serious about playing pro is to make yourself a really well rounded player and learn to play a bit of everything.
You just have to have an ear for things like producing... anyone can do a course in it, but the people that make it are the ones that are really good and have a natural talent lol! It's good to have your fingers in many pies though!

Well....learning a trade isn't helping a lot of people at the minute, the building trade sucks right now!
People who want to go to Uni, like my girlfriend to become a teacher, not to get into debt. The people who get into debt are those such as not knowing what they want to do (go with the flow and want the party lifestyle) and who study ridiculous subjects like history when they don't want to become a teacher or historian, or african bible studies etc.
