Hello - Has anybody done a 1098 turbo in here?

My Dad has a short block in the garage, we are looking at building it up and then me and my mate are going to stick a turbo on it.

I Wondered if anyone has got one and if they can recommend what rods to go for, it's gonna be fast once built TRUST me. lol

Also we're looking at trying to get 120BHP, has anyone got figures from their own conersions they can share with me?

Please try typing in English, as per forum rules.

Post in English

When posting on the forums, please use English! Don't speak entirely in all-capitals, or so called 'TEXT' speak.

Also if you're able to speak good English, use your abilities - computers provide you with a full keyboard, and there is no need to shorten words to letters (for example you = u, and your = ur) therefore please use full words.

The forum software (with 95% of browsers) includes a spell-check facility - please use it! Any words spelt incorrectly will be underlined in red. Excuses such as "I suffer from dyslexia" no longer apply due to the introduction of this software.

You're not helping yourself or others when people have to decipher your writing before deciding whether or not to reply.

Thanks, Dave

I'm not "having a go", I'm simply telling you the forum rules, that you agreed to abide by when you signed up, part of my job as moderator.
And as pointed out, there's a spell check, maybe try using it so people can understand what you write?

Back to the original subject, maybe look at the MG Metro Turbo power outputs, they guys have to use uprated parts to increase power over 100bhp, but you may be able to use the same rods, pins, etc for your build.

Thinking about crank bearing straps, you may need to modify the block, (but can copy Turbo 998s here).

Yeah, looking at 105 at the wheels - would be nice. :D

Metro parts are a good idea - I might be able to pick them up cheap on ebay aswell, the block is very old and it's gonna to need sorting out anyway, didn't think we would need to mod it though????

Thanks for advice mate, anybody else?

Maybe a myth but i heard somewhere that the stock 998 cam works wonders in a 1098?

Only reason I'd think of modifying is surrounding whether the big end bearings would be up to the job. Look at the MG Metro Turbo compared to a standard 1275 - the MG Metro Haynes is good for this, as you can compare it to your mini Haynes.

You may want to port the head, and match it to the MG Metro Turbo manifolds and Turbocharger, only thing then is why not go all out 1275 Turbo from the start?

You'll also need to reduce your compression ratio to reduce knock, and consider what the timing, and advance curve need to be like, maybe RR job.

And you may need to modify the bulkhead to fit the Turbo in, (if going MG Turbo route take a look at the other 1275 Turbo minis).

being a long throw crank the longest in the standard mini range. The crank needs a lot of work to make it strong and able to live the other side of the 6 k rpm limit, it may well break on the big end journal.

Thats a real worry, strengthening the crank i would imagine is a diificult job?

Are u saying that turbo'ing isn't a good idea? I mean i really want to try and am not interested in 998 or 1275, I want something different for me to cruise in :D

People use 998s and 1275s for turbos because they can take it. Sell the 1098 and get a 1275, will make life a million times easier - all the pistons are available, cranks are stronger, heads are easier to mod and it will make more power. But as I doubt you'll listen to advice from people who may know anything, so just carry on.

No we cant. This is why members have taken offence at you.

Everyone tries to post in the most correct and full english they know. So why should you be different?

You have joined this forum with the agreement that you will abide by any rules. The english typing rule as allready been issued to you once in this post.

Also the internet browsers and forum software include spell checks, so theres no excuses to type in poor english or text speak.

If you want help, then help yourself first and begin to type properly on the forum, so people can easily understand your question and reply with an answer that you can understand and use.

Thanks
Jordie
