Anyway, I finished off the welding on the passenger side floor

Then I moved the car over to the other side of the garage so I could start on the other
Removed the wing and part of the scuttle to see what was there(or in this case wasn't!!)

Spotted it yet???
The scuttle stiffening plate had been "forgotten about!!"
There was also some rot as well, not too much though.
First job tomorrow is see if I can source a stiffening panel, I'm pretty sure my local panel place will have one, if not its a trip to min-its or mini spares.

I had a good go at the the drivers side, we knew that this side was going to be worse than the passengers, just didn't know how bad it really was.
Very poor repairs, not welded properly, plate on top of plate, most of it came away in my hand.
Same proceedure as last time..
Cut hole in rear 1/4

mmmmm, rusty and bady repaired, inner stiffening plate for the sill had been butchered and the heelboard arm that attaches to the inner sill was missing!!
Next I cut out the door step

More rust and poor repairs!!
New step welded in

Have a look at the state of the floor and inner sills that I removed

Shocking, most this was covered by a badly welded plate, note the rust at the end of the cross member and inner sill, right by the seatbelt mounting point!!
I wouldn't have liked to trust this in the event of an accident.
As a light relief I made a start on repairing the rust in the rear bins

Getting the new floor to fit took a lot of jiggery pokeery!!
Eventually got it sitting nicely and is now ready for me to weld up today.

The pile of rust outside my garage is getting bigger!!!

I welded up the new floor, the panel was no where near as good a fit as the other side, took some messing with to get it to sit right.

Did some welding in the rear bins

I got a bit bored of welding the floor so I decided to have a look at the boot floor instead...
Hmmmmm.......someones been here before

I never knew that silicon sealer was a replacement for weld!!!
Note how clean the steel is underneath, thats been done very recently!!
So, time to make a hole!!

New rear panel fitted

The boot floor was also replaced as well

When I've seam welded this panel in and ground it back it will be almost invisible.
Theres still a bit of a hole in the corner but I'll do this when I remove the rear 1/4.
Thats most of the rust dealt with now, now its time to start making it look like a mini again.
We've decided to replace the front panel as well, the old wings had been seam welded to it, I don't think it would ever look right against our nice new wings etc.
Stay tuned!!

Finished off fitting the rear repair panel and trial fitted the rear valance

Very happy with that, all lines up very well indeed and once the repairs been given a quick skim you won't even know its there!!
Still couldn't be arsed to roll on the floor finishing off the floor welding so I thought I'd see how the doors fit.
A bit of hole elongation and tweeking gave some good results

Tried the A panel as well, again not perfect but a damm good start!!

Pick up the new front panel tomorrow and will make a start on the front end, quite looking forward to it as well!!

I love the way you just attack the rear quarters with the plasma!

Good work yet again shifty!
I love the way you just attack the rear quarters with the plasma!
In for a penny in for a pound!!
It makes the job SOOOOOOOO much easier, I'd be lost without my cutter, Martin borrowed it for a while and when I had it bacj he had to buy one because he couldn't do with out it either!!
Actually I've attacked the entire car with the cutter, by the time we've finished its gonna be a rat look mini(well most of the outer panels will be matt black anyway!!!)

Removed the crappy old front end

Found some more rot!!

Cut the rot out!!

Camera seems to have missed the pic of the repair I did, but honest its there!!
I then trial fitted the front end, note the use of weld through primer, i don't want my nice work being ruined in a few months!!

Front end is nearly there a bit of tweeking and grinding and fettleing and its good.
