This is my mini , I knew a few people wanted me to make this so here we go
Was bought as a non runner but have had it cranked over the only thing not starting it being a faulty solenoid
Only had it a few months need to get a few more pics of it show you what else has been done



These are from when we first got it


Removing the brakes which had seized



The floor dropped on the drivers side there are no sills holding it on either side dont know why?


The back probably best ATM just because not as bad only has rust on boot and a bit of rear valance missing and a little bit of boot missing but its ok.


The left side which is MUCH better than the right for some reason part of the door has gone?


Closer look of the left side I only washed it 3 times before dad decided to wash it twice needed to get the dirt of sitting in a bush for 10 years off


The fronts not that bad just got a bit of the scuttle which is rusty poked at it and seems that its been fillered but not bad.


All the last owner crap inside , good thing those seat covers where on seats are fine.


More Recent when i stripped it all out so we could start welding it back together.


Wirebrushed the boot where it was rusty, treated it and then primed.


When i ripped out the interior couldnt get off the last of the sound deadening but did eventually.


Whoops can see the rust at the end of the crossmember


Not as bad


More damage but already been but out and pretty much welded in new panel.

Thats all the photos i got will take some more pics next week

cheers mate already welded in the front drivers floor panel will get a pic next week
need to get new crossmember to do it properly a panel a few others
need to wait till i get crossmember so i can do other side ,inner sill, rear drivers floor

Yeah i will cheers man i've already started welding the front drivers floor pan so its coming on quite nicely

PROGRESS!!



The middle of the scuttle pretty, Dad poked it with a screwdriver and it fell apart.


After we took the windscreen off, we found this couldnt see it with the windsreen on


Looks like it has been fillered, this crumbled away easily aswell.


Polishing up the wheels , painted another one but didnt take a pic


Boot floor , has no rear valance on either side


Other side of the boot has been fillered, will be gettin the 10" repair strip and welding it back together

Just been reading this and I have to say this car concerns me more than a little bit.

I'm not here to pour scorn on your enthusiam or work but this car needs more than the repair floor panels.

Its pretty much a basket case, and needs treating as such if its ever going to be safe to drive.

The subframes, interior, front end etc will all need to be removed before you should even start to think about repairing it.

The lack of door steps and floor will be causing the shell to sag, the shell need to be braced and squared up before you can even start to think about welding it.

There's going to be loads more rust hidden in this car and from experience I'd say its gonna need £700+ worth of panels to get it even close to safe.

As the car will have had many welded repairs its even more important that your welding is top quality, your life may well depend on it some day.

Practise first, don't rush into it and if you need any advice just ask, I've got plenty of experience of basket cases!!

Hi mate,

I've just looked the first few pictures over. Take this in whichever way you like, but it's meant to be friendly and full of concern.
But the shell looks dead I'm afraid.
I may be wrong - I'm just learning myself - but listen. I may be learning with minis, but I understand the construction principles that they're built under.

Would you get into your car and jump up and down?
I think it might begin to collapse in on itself. If you think that something bad would happen if you DID go jumping about then you understand where I'm coming from. Driving about it akin to jumping up and down, sometimes with more force!!

You're going to need some serious work to put that right. Once the floor is dead (and the cross member is a good indication that it is!) then you've only got three sides of the shell working. That means it's likely to warp, move and crumple. I understand I've only seen a couple of photos. But what they show isn't good.

What I'm saying is that while this IS fixable, it WILL cost a fortune and LOTS and LOTS of time and SKILLS to sort it.
Personally, I'd walk away from that shell. You have some nice alloys, and engine and an interior to use and so on in your next mini.
You might even make your money back by breaking the car and selling the bits.

Some people told me to walk away from mine (not Shifty and the others here actually..) and I'm glad I didn't. But Bradley, my mini is essentially solid with rusty bits at the edges. Yours.. isn't.

Please take this as friendly concerned advice. I hope we're still talking?!

Wow, that really is a lot of work!!!!!!!

If you do decide that its too far gone, give me a shout, I have a shell that is in a better state, it maybe an easier "first" project for you.

Look on the bright side, if you do complete it you will be a highly skilled welder.

It is here - I've had to resort to doing wooden decking in the garden. Power tools in the rain - gotta love it!

I have done work today engine is nearly out except from pin in gearbox holding it in
Took pictures but dont have phone cable to upload them
Engine should be coming out
And had change of plan
Cutting out drivers floor AGAIN
and buying a front to rear and welding it in
will be buying an A post (door frame)
and crossmember
but need the money first
Will get pics up tomorrow
