I concur with the above, not very many road cars warrant a spoiler for outright downforce, mainly for looks.

My Maserati has a sort of under tray/spoiler (between the exhausts) which works very well, the car feels totally planted when you push on a bit...

It pulls the back end down as apposed to pushing it down, but then when you're rocking along at 174mph (cars claimed top speed, not my personal best may i add!!!!!) i think you'd need all the downforce you can get.

haha they're huge, you'd probably have to weld the boot up just to get them to fit, oh, and they're £927+ vat each brand new for the main lights, another £27+vat each for the boot lid lights and about £400 for the control unit that erm, controls them lol

Didn't somone say somthing about modern supercars not having spoilers, infact the veyron has a huge hydraulic spoiler thats very clever and works at variable heights and angles for the driving types and also doubles as an air brake.

However i agree that a rear spoiler on a road going mini is fairly unnecessary, especially if things like a flat under tray haven't been done yet.

EDIT: Sorry i had too, murcielago sv:

(don't tell me thats just for looks!)

I had a honda CRX del sol, when I bought it it had the most rediculous spoiler I have ever seen, It was an adjustable carbon fibre F1 style effort, it was about 150mm wder than the car on each side.

When i got above 60mph, it pushed the back of the car down so much, the steering went light, making it really skittish, and horrible to drive.

So I took it off and sold it for half what I had paid for the car. RESULT

I fitted a front splitter to my clubman. On autobahns it felt skittish above 70mph now its ok for 100+mph. A lot more stable at the front end now, definately works!! Would love to fit a hydraulic Spoiler/airbrake to the rear roof, that lays flat at low speeds. LOL

I know for a fact that the front splitter works, they limit the amout off air going under the car and force the air around the car.

Is it worth cutting douing something under the rear of the car then?

You could cut up the rear valance but then the subframe would still act as a parachute wouldn't it?

What do racers do?
