It was probably a year ago, i was at the local skatepark (actually skateboarding and not just loitering-) And some young guys, probably about 16-18 turn up. They start harrassing the grunge-emo type people you usually get at the parks, but one of them climbed onto a ramp i was standing on, turned to me, stuck out his fist and said "safe bruv?"

for a few seconds i had this expression --> on my face. Eventually it registered in my brain that he believed i was "acceptable" so i clumsily muttered "er, yeah, safe."

We already have a language i don't see why they have to go make up their own.

Guys in my 6th form used a lot of chav dialect too, words like hench, safe, bare, "wedge" (Particularly large), "chief" (apparently means "to steal" i.e. Why you be chiefing ma fone?")

The one i hated the most was "allow", eventually everyone started using it, even normal people. If you say "allow that" it means "forget doing that". Doesn't even make sense

Haha yes!

pretty much all of that is exactly what i was thinking as i read this post.

but with the 'allow' bit, round where i live it's sort of turned into just 'llow' (pronounced like allow, but with out the a)

and, although 'cheif' is also used as a word for steal, it's also become another cuss word "oh, him? yeah, that boy is a chief"

but i find that alough i dont really talk like that (and as pretty much everyone else in this topic has said).
i do find it starting to rub off.

99 percent of the time now, instead of saying something like cool, or wicked, or ace or something like that. i'll just end up saying 'siicck'

it started off as a bit of a joke between me and all of my friends, but we wore that joke out pretty hard and now it's kind of left me saying things like that. aha.

John.

I was once approached by one of their kind who came up to me and said "Bust me"

....So I beat him to death (joke, albeit a bit crap...)

Isn't it funny how slang is so often misinterpreted?

I was banned from B&Q because I got into a fight with one of the shop assistants after he asked me if "I wanted decking"
>_<

im 19, i dont speak like that, but i dont pronounse my H's, i dont know if its a local thing, as there are a few people who dont, or if its the farmer in me, but then evesham is well know for its market gardening!

people who try to be "gangsta" really annoy me, they are such wannabes, and i agree, i think its down to the films they watch! i dont understand why they do it though, nobody in their right mind would employe somebody like that, and there is nothing wrong with saying please and thankyou, atleast that way you get some sort of respect, instead of just fake gangsta respect of other wanabes!

one thing you can really tell by this post is that "CHAVS" obviously don't like minis as no one is defending them or the way they talk. There are so many kids round my way that talk like that i really wana slap them but then i wouldn't be any better than the dirty little pikey b***ards.

Well let's not forget how 'older' folks can use confusing and non-sensical language. I recently posted a thread on here asking how much an engine weighed, and some joker gave me an answer in 'pounds', whatever that means... They'll start talking about 'gallons' and 'cubits' and 'the conservative party' if we're not careful!
