You can buy cage tube in legnths from Merlin Motorsport among other places, but it aint cheap.

Instead of using crappy f/g arches why not try making steel ones, I have seen trailor arches used a few times on wide track cars. I priced them up a while back at my local trailor centre and they were around £6 each for galvy about 8" wide. All you need to do is trim one edge to the shape of the car and to the right width, weld them on and your away (no cracking filler on the f/g joins either!)

Almost all FIA mini cages are 1 1/2 CDS 2.5~2.64mm wall thickness, when you buy the CDS make sure you get a bendable grade of CDS tube. £10+VAT per metre is a reasonable price to pay for this tube

CDS = Cold Drawn Seamless

How do you intend bending this tube, you will need a proper tube bender to do a good job of this otherwise it will collapse, it might be cheaper to buy a cage secondhand if you can wait, probably cheaper than you could buy the metal

This is what I have done I have bought a FIA Safety Devices cage and then added additional bars for my bike engined conversion

Cheers
David

my uncle has a hydraulic pipe bender, which is handy :dontgetit: i knew the tube had to be seamless, because i've built a race car before, and i'm fairly handy with steet work and wood work, so i'm now thinking of making some arches, fairly similar to sportspacks just alot wider :dontgetit:

and the exhaust that i hand built from scratch, it was straight back from the manifold, right hand bend, shortened janspeed straight through box and hand made oval cone, not bad for my first attempt at sheet work :tongue:

hi guys thought i'd up date since i havent done so in while, its not very good news though, my mum accidentily started her v6 cougar in reverse, when not in the car! and cause its got a auto blipper when you start this engine, and the hand brake wasnt quite on fully, it drove its self back down the drive, onto my new garage slab, bounced off the mini, and knocked down one of the walls.

but thank god she's got decent insurance, there paying for all the panels i need, and labour, but i can do the work!!! and there'll pay me!!!!

will post pics later, my mums decided to my dads £400 camera at her work!!!!!!
