I know someone in the Navy he loves it,all i can say is if you think you can be away from loved ones then give it a crack!!,i finished my 9 week basic training at the start of april passing out parade was probably the proudest day of my life,i then left at the start of May after doing 2 weeks of phase 2(ET(ME)) Missing being away from home and family and didnt think i could cope with being away for 6 months at a time.I had a right laugh in basic training,you wont think so when your doing it but afterwards you'll want to do it again.

I cant comment on the navy but have been in the RAF for 12 years as an aircraft engineer,currently working on helicopters,it took me 20 months to get in,then another 7 weeks basic training then another 19 months learning my job at the defence college of aeronautical engineering cosford before even being posted to an operational unit,since 2003 ive done 6 tours of afghanistan and 5 in iraq,plus belize,america and norway,so if you dont mind gpoing away at least 3 months or more every year its not for you,on the plus side good money,job security and free helath/dental care,

RAF= Crabfat's :(

The RN's current official time for deployments is 1 every 2yrs, in reality it can be much more. for an eg 3 x 6 month and 1 3 month deployments in 31/2 years but some ships will go 2+ years without any major deployment but that is less and less likely. The time away goes quicker than you might think, but be aware that when your not deployed you can be doing training in the interim. Do get 38 days paid leave and free medical/dental.
