normally an air leak causes these problems, check the vaccum pipes on the manifold to air filter and ecu and also make sure they are doing the correct test for a mini and not a normal cat test

any test station should have the readings aloud for all production cars and a mini has its own readings like up to 1.09 on the lamda,

I am having similar trouble with my Mpi at the moment, turned out the majority of my trouble was coming from a bad joint in the exhaust even thought it looked and sounded normal, but I can't get the lambda down under 1.27. It is a stage 4 so emission trouble is to be expected.

Will putting a new lambda sensor in make any difference as the reading is taken from the tailpipe and not the sensor itself?

1.27 to me looks like an airleak on the exhaust

When I've took mine for an MOT before it failed and a friend said to take it for a good drive before hand which I've found helps as its nice and warm when you get to the MOT garage. Dunno if it does work or not but has worked for me since
