I for one having worked at Halfords see the company itself as the problem and not the staff. I was more than willing to learn but never taught. Being self taught in halfords is the only way to go as it is not offered. I also would like to say the customers are probably a good portion of the problem. I am sure you knew what you were talking about but as an average you would get 9 clueless idiots ready for a fight to the 1 fairly knowledgeable weekend mechanic who loves to service his own car.

I see this as very sterotypical! His car?! What happened to her car?! I may seem to be a moany woman, I service and work on my own car.. And ladybug the KA is just a start before I get the real macoy, my mini!

Cars are pretty much my life, it's one of my hobbys now it seems!

As far as I'm concerned if he didn't know, why did he give me the wrong information?! I'm a hairdresser and if someone came in with a problem with thier hair, I wouldn't give them the wrong info/advice.

If I've never been in halfords really before how am I to know what's in there?!
If I get trade prices at the local motorfactors and thier unit, I wouldn't normaly have visited them, just on pure off chance, I had visited 3 scrap yards, all closed, I needed my car that night, and with a floppy wiper I wasn't going anywhere!

We all have to learn from our mistakes, and now I have in my head what halfords stock!

I'm very impatient and like to get jobs done, when we restored the mini it was me that set time scales and did lists and organised tim, I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

Love you all! X harri X

To be fair the Farnham halfords does have a few chavs in its vacinity, but you cant much help that. There used to be a mini owner who worked there as there was always a mini in the car park.

The counter clerks never have a go at me because they always have my dad and his signature glare, keeping them in check.

And anyway, if i was there with you i would have given them an outrageous piece of my mind.

I'm doing it in my KA.. got the valve for £13 so i shouldn't take a hour maybe less to get it in, and hopefully hot air will resume! :)

I was about to say you sound like a grumpy sort of lady. Then i seen your profile where you listed a Mk 1 RS Escort as a top motor....................So now i may be a little bit in love. :)

Anyway, yes Halford is full of newly pubeescent boys who yearn to grow a moosetach, yet refuse to believe a female knows more about cars than they do.

why thankyouu (: i'm not normally moody.. but i was just a bit flustered and very impatient.. i just wanted to get the KA fixed, need to prove to my mum i'll be fine with a mini lol!

It's easy to fall in love with me! :D

Harrri! Doesn't surprise me in the slightest!

slightly off topic, but i love going into halfords (i work next door to one) and asking for things that dont exist just to see what they come up with.

recent ones- a water pump for a 1962 VW beetle, spark plugs for a 1990 escort diesel plus loads of other things.

its just great to watch the kid stare at the screen and look confused then call the manager/supervisor.

:shy: Giving me ideas!

I do that in PC world  I actually went in there the once and ended up advising a potential customer of theirs to buy a laptop that *shock-horror* wasn't the TOTR one the pushy sales assistant wanted him to have. Should have seen the look on the staffer's face ... needless to say he decided he didn't need to offer me any help choosing my own laptop at all. He sent over a senior staffer who'd been watching me and obviously knew I wasn't a stereotypical, technically inept female. >_<

I still go in there occassionally to wind up the newbies though.

Anyhoo, Hellfrauds... well, I've had mixed experiences with my local branch but seen as they know me down there as I spend most of my free cash in there on cleaning supplies and helping my bro with The Green Goblin, they know they can't fleece me. It's still nice to see the newbies fall into the "It's a girl" trap though. :ermm:

Typically, the older staff there are extremely knowledgeable...it's the youngsters who make the mistake of thinking everyone wants to buy that Ripspeed crap they sell.

Without wishing to cause offence to those who work or have worked there - Halfords is without exception sh*te (to the OP WSM particularly) I don't use them unless as a last resort owing to the fact a friend has a trade card with them - ye gods the price difference!!! - rip of the general public something rotten then flog the same stuff to the trade for peanuts - point of principle here - instead I use partco / unipart all the way - get trade price there all the time - they carry good quality stock, know what they're on about and at least at my local one almost always have whatever I want in stock....even if they're out they get it in double quick time...

Had the misfortune of WSM Halfords in the summer whilst doing some weekend paint repairs on my Mrs VW - according to them the paint didn't exist... odd that hals the golf's of its age are that shade of blue and every other motor factor carries it.... the retard offering assistance (to be fair trying to be of some use - at least didn't try and flog me some chav tat suggested a nissan blue.... oddly not even close....

i think the main problem with halfords is that they dont employ staff with any knowledge of anything! they seem to employ the dumbest most uneducated people going(round my way anyway) and because the staff dont know what they're selling people go elsewhere for the stuff they want and the only profit that halfords will get is on stuff that people who know what they want go in and get, hence the high prices me thinks
halfords are never gonna pay for any tuition for employees as its cheaper to just employ general shop staff and not people who know what they're on about
it wouldnt be at all sad to see a chain like halfords go down as most local motor factors are going to be cheaper, more helpful, more knowledgable, more likely to get parts in or have classic parts there......(please feel free to complete the list!!)
ok rant over!!!
