Sometimes they're great- I have a trade card and stuff like filters and other 'consumables' are very cheap and usually available there and then.
I've also used the paint mixing service before, had a proper result with the dark blue for my 944- it was cheap and matched perfectly.
However, when I tried to get some Flamenco Red mixed up for the Mini, the bloke came back to me 5 mins later and said he couldn't mix it because 'it originally had lead in it'.
To those of you who work there- was this just a brush-off or a genuine reason why he couldn't/ wouldn't do it?
I felt like saying 'just leave the lead out then?!'

i think the main problem with halfords is that they dont employ staff with any knowledge of anything! they seem to employ the dumbest most uneducated people going(round my way anyway) and because the staff dont know what they're selling people go elsewhere for the stuff they want and the only profit that halfords will get is on stuff that people who know what they want go in and get, hence the high prices me thinks
halfords are never gonna pay for any tuition for employees as its cheaper to just employ general shop staff and not people who know what they're on about
it wouldnt be at all sad to see a chain like halfords go down as most local motor factors are going to be cheaper, more helpful, more knowledgable, more likely to get parts in or have classic parts there......(please feel free to complete the list!!)
ok rant over!!!
I was surprised by just how quiet my local Halfords was and usually always is whenever I bother to visit. Where as the more helpful Autoparts shop around the corner always has a queue.
I only visited Halfords to see if they had the Mini Renovation book in stock. I'd spotted it on the shelf before, but they'd sold out.
No problem though as Amazon has it for half the price: -

Exactly, but I'm glad they'd sold out as now I'll get a better deal on-line.
