Is there an easy way to convert to mk1 rear lights?
possibly without cutting/welding too much?

I think there are some plates you can buy that you weld in, but then the welds would have to be ground down, smoothed, and a little spraying done I think, but correct me if i'm wrong. There may be an easier way.

Edit: Can't seem to find these plates now though?!

So if I did convert my 1991 mini to have MK1 rear lights, I wouldn't have to add a reversing light?
It's something I'd like to look into....

EDIT: are these what you mean, Lucky?

Must be hard to get the join looking right....

Nope you wouldn't need one, only needs to work if it is there - if there isn't one, it's fine. Doesn't work on the age of the car like black and silver number plates do etc.

You might like having one for reversing, or for peace of mind when reversing though... How I feel, so i'll do something, be it a big Lucas lamp if it looks good, or just something small in the rear windscreen for others to see i'm reversing. Sort of important with lots of new drivers outside of school, don't want any dented bumpers and bootlids :D

Yeah those are the sort of plates I saw. Someone here might have some ready to go on a project and could make you a template? Could make your own for way less.

Yeah. i'm no body work expert at all, but I imagine it requires a lot of smoothing with filler after grinding down the welds? Anyone know? Might get more advice posting in my thread about lights in the styling section, or making your own thread there?

Matt
