The real fix is to get the carb nearer to the engine so that it can benefit from the heat generated by the engine

COOL - or slightly warmer with the carb heater on. Glad you're sorted.

i agree with the guy that mentioned the shorter carb to charger pipe, plus being shorter it would hopefully be straighter too which would be nice. why do these kits (and your home built one) have the carb all the way down the front? is it for colder air intake?

i have considered this before myself, im sure im up to the job of making the manifolds and brackets, its more about the down time on my mini, i cant live without it for long!

I made up the inlet with the view of its what other makers are doin & i'm sure they have played about with different length inlet tracks. Maybe its just down to getting all mini's with servos to fit. Or getting fuel & air to atomise properly.
The only problem i'm having is on tick over, when the ambient air temp goes up so dose tickover. Just today i have unscrewed tickover screw to drop the reves down because its getting warmer.
I might make up a new shorter one but at the mo i'm just enjoying driving it :-

I'm sure no one could blame you for that, it looks awesome. Did the heater make a difference? Any ideas on the power you're making?

The heater made a big difference a couple of months ago, but now the weather has heated up the heater is switched off
I did mean to put it on the rollers but havent as yet so have no idea on power
On this site i found what needles people are using & have set it up myself, also tried 3 different weighted carb springs on each needle & found what works. Still need to check on the rollers to see how its running flat out in top gear to be sure. It sits at 90mph ok & still wants to go!
coming up for a 1000 miles now & no troubles :)
fingers x

This is my heated K&N.

not fitted and not sure if I'll even need it, but it should work.

I intend to put a switch in the circuit so I can choose to turn it on or off.

Its the RS PCT heater recommended on this topic.

I wasn't sure of the optimum position. In the end I decided to mount it on the centre pillar to heat the air rather than mounting it flat on the back panel to heat the carburettor. I would be grateful for people's views on this...

Has anyone used the 40 degree c PCT heater from RS in their air filter? Do you think this would be more suitable than the 80 degree c version available? At 40 degrees it could be left on all the time with the ignition rather than switched. 80 degrees seems quite hot and pulls some current.
