Hi Rusty,

Congrats on buying Leeroy, I hope he's good to you!

Just to let you know, he was never an spi, always carb...I bought him off the original owner and he was completely 100% standard, not even a radio fitted.

I took the cat off when I did the stage 1 kit, and it went through the MOT fine for me.

Looking forward to see how you get on with him >_<

im shocked it wasnt an spi, theres a bracket on the bulkhead that hold relays, ive only ever seen it on a spi, it much be a VERY late carb model then......

lovely looking mini there, nice find.

the debate about spi/carb, it will of been carb from the day it was made. but when spi models were first introduced they made small adjustments to the body shells
it would not be finantially sane to create two shells for pretty much the same car, so the carb models that were produced at the same time as spi also had these adjustments

i have a 93 mini which was carb as standard (and still is) and it has this bracket fitted despite not having an alarm. but i am under the impression that the same pressure switch that is used in the hinge panel for your courtesy light is. so get one of those and fit yourself a boot light >_<

What about the fan in the inner arch then?! Surely its not cost effective to put a non working fan in?!

I was also a bit confused about this. When I was looking at the topic on here 'have we got the complete set yet' in 1993 where it says model its got Sprite Carb. Then when you go in to 1994 it just says Sprite. So does this means all sprite's made in 1993 have carbs and anyone made after that would have been an SPI. I could be wrong that as far as I can tell thats what it look like.

Heres the topic if you want to have a look for yourself.

EDIT: It also says (Austin68) and (Minidude03) own 1993 sprites maybe send them a PM and see if they know anything.

Well, fixed the heater today, I know have a warm car!

Mashed my finger a bit by trying to find where a blow of air was coming from, what a suprise, maybe the fan?! (Yeah blonde moment..)

Note to self. Don't go poking about engine bays with bare fingers >_<

Testint the fixed heater matrix.. :(

Posted Image

Also, i want to run a pip through the inlet manifold, as been as its there and its rather cold at the moment it can't do any harm helping the carb warm up a bit!

But what pipe do i use?!

Posted Image

This one..

Posted Image

That goes too..

Posted Image

Anyone?

Also i think i have an oil leak coming from..

Posted Image

Common, not so common? Just a case of tightening the nut up a bit?

And a couple of general photos..

the sprites of 1993 will be carb, but just because someone doesnt say its a sprite carb doesnt make it not a carb.

the other question about the fan... course the fan works, i thought i said most of the changes were for the introduction of spi

the pipe you have in your hand doesnt hold water and isnt part of the cooling system if it goes to where you say

ill have a look at mine if i get chance and show you where the heated inlet manifold is plumber in from, as i have it fitted

But there are two fans, an electric on in the inner wing and the engine driven one..

From my knowledge of air systems wouldn't this just create less air flow unless they were set up properly?

Both my mini`s are from a similar time bot are 93 and 94 both are carb models not spi`s,there are relays fitted to the bracket on the bulkhead. Also the washer bottle is in the boot when theres no real need.
As for the electric fan on the inner wing, the radiator should have a switch on the bottom front corner, its just behind the grill with two wires running from it.These go to the fan.
Your oil leak,i wouldn`t try tightening it to much as the pipe which goes into the bolt only has a rubber olive type seal on it which is probably knackered, the best option may be to get a braid oil pipe whick goes from the block to the oil filter housing.
Hope this helps.

electric fan is for when car gets very hot.....normally stationary. It provides extra cooling when u need it.....

Ventured out to mini spares yesterday bought leeroy some belated christmas presents..

Posted Image

Wipacs.

New Bowls.

Posted Image

Poly Bushes.

Posted Image

The guy in the mini spares shop kindly explained where each set went, I'm not going lie, I listened then didn't really have much of an idea other than the subframe mounts.. I just asked for a set for the complete car..

Then a few other bits i've acquired.. Not sure if this is for this car or the other one, except the mirrors..

Proper mirrors rather than painted ones.

Posted Image

Fibreglass boot panel.

Posted Image

I was so suprised how little it weighed..

Clear rear Lenses.

Posted Image

Also about to have a bash at fitting my centre exit RC40 and Maniflow manfold from the project car's pile of bits as its not going to get done anywhen soon..

Posted Image

Posted Image

Oh, and i'm going to chuck these on for good measure..

You need to run the pipes that go to the heater matrix through the inlet manifold, they are the only ones that are the right size and hold water, bit of fancy pipe routing on your car me thinks. :-
