Kids, Fake Id's And Boozing.

Basically one woman was saying that her daughter, 16, had some fake ID to get her into the nightclubs to go boozing with her mates. She told her daughter it was illegal, and told her of the consequences, but didn't actually stop her from going.
An ex police chief of some description was also present in the conversation and he was saying that parents should be stricter on their kids and not allow them to use fake ID's, often purchased online, as they're not only illegal, but when these under-age drinkers get boozed up, the local community suffers when they go terrorizing everyone after a few cans of cider, or, as seems to be more commonplace, a night out on the toon.
The woman on the show said his comments were "ridiculous" and kids will be kids.
It seems to be she is a typical modern parent who takes no responsibility for her children whatsoever. At 16, my parents certainly wouldn't let me go into town with a fake ID and go get slaughtered on cheap booze. I was annoyed at the time but looking back, I'm glad I wasnt allowed because it's simply not safe for a sixteen year old to indulge in such an adult environment and it's something I think should definately be left until at least 18, in fact I didn't start going out properly until I was 19-20 and when I look back now 4 years later I considered myself pretty immature then.
What do you think? As a parent, would you be happy allowing your kids to go out in town with a fake ID and money in their pocket? If so, whats your reasoning?

but a while ago i was talking to some of the older blokes at work (about 60 ish) they had loads of stories about going into the pub at 16 and getting wrecked.
no one cared then so why should we now?
everything is over analyzed now, its all happened before, its nothing new

That is a good point.
My dad has similar stories, and my brother, who is only 23, has some too, although there is still a difference between them. BUt i wish it was like that

Yeah, alot of places won't even take provisional driving licences anymore. Unless it has a pass logo (even then clubs / bar won't accept), or is government issued you won't get away with it.
With regards to the main thread, don't you remember being that age and trying to get into pubs? (well most of you I assume) Half the fun is trying to get in and get served!

i didnt have a fake ID and didnt drink until 18, im not a massive drinker now i feel like ive grown out of it at 21 maybe its because i have to run a mini??
i work the biggest entertainment company in the midlands (one of the biggest in the country) and considering the volume of people we see (typically 14000 a night) we dont get many kids trying it on (a handful a year).
i dont think you need a fake ID to buy a few tins, if your the kind who likes drinking in parks, i know theres plenty of "dodgy" corner shops round here.
i think it depends how youve been brought up and thus your character!

I'm 17 but i've been getting into pubs with girls since i was 16 but not to get smashed, to socialise. i've never had fake id becauae i look atleast 18 anyway and dont act like a *melon* on the doorstep or walk in wearin a tracksuit and a cap on backwards! I'm quite happy to go out with my mates and a few girls , have a few drinks and then walk home. Its not all about tthe age IMO. Its about the mental age and maturity...the wee fannys that smuggle in bottles of buckfast and then start fallin all over the place are the ones who should get tae *melon*, if the hard guys cant handle it tthen they need to stop embarrassing themselves and removing all doubt that theyre a bunch of pricks

One thing I was quite confused about is the other night I was asked for ID to buy a diet coke. I don't get that.

I think half the blame lies with the parents, half with the people who sell the booze to kids because they obviously don;t check hard enough, and half with the drinkers themselves.
and yes i know, there are three halves in that sentence....
