Most people are generalising quite a bit here. 'All these kids go out, get drunk, and then cause havoc, beat everyone up etc etc etc'.

My god people. I know its a problem we have in this country, but think of all the people that go out on friday and saturday nights, and then realistically think of the percentage of those that do start fights and vandalise things. It's pretty low really! In no way am i saying it's acceptable, but this anti-social behaviour comes from people that have anti-social behaviour problems whether their drunk or sober. Admittedly drink doesnt help, but its very rare that it'll turn a decent person into a monster of society unless they really do have a drink problem.

As i said, i go out and get drunk with my friends a couple times a week and we have a great time most times, unless someone else spoils it, but thats pretty rare. we dont get so drunk we pass out or throw up everywhere, but we certainly get past tipsy. and we dont beat people up, start any fights, vandalise anything etc etc etc. get off your high horses for gods sake.

Some people have problems which is worsened by drink. drink doesnt automatically make everyone violent and abusive.

I think you have to be careful with the terms used as well. Binge drinking technically is about 3 pints or something stupid like that. However to me, thats not binge drinking. Binge drinking is also portrayed with some of the worst cases shown on various TV programs. It never shows the people that go out, have a laugh have a dance, a kebab and go home.

Well said.

There are laws around drinking age too. if an 18 year old lad pulls a 15 year old girl in the club, has sex with her and she tries to prosecute the law will favour the lad as the girl should not have been there in the first place.

Are you sure? Someone I work with, his brother got sent down for five years for doing the above. He'd met her in a club so pleaded his case that way and they said it doesn't change the fact she was too young to consent. :-

but a while ago i was talking to some of the older blokes at work (about 60 ish) they had loads of stories about going into the pub at 16 and getting wrecked.
no one cared then so why should we now?

This was mentioned on the radio, to which the ex-copper said pubs and club are very different places now to back then. Drugs are much more common these days and the most common place to get them is nightclubs.

Wow, this topic has been going on ages and i haven't even had a say.

I've spent my entire teenage years generally shunned by my classmates because i don't consent to the ignorant decadent monumentally stupid teenage drink culture. Out of the hundreds of boys and girls of my age, a small few drink responsibly. For years i've seen guys and girls, as young as 13 using fake ID's to buy the strongest drink possible, then wandering into a deserted field to shove it all down their gullet.

At parties, i would watch people drink so much they'd vomit within 10 minutes, make a pass at other people's partners, wander off, and the next day hear that they passed out in a ditch somewhere and, in the morning, woke up and staggered home.

it's disgusting, and as soon as i find out a person's heavy drinking habits, my respect for them plummets. They have absolutely no class whatsoever.
