Boot Lock?!

Year: 1989
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):
hey all, i cannot get into my boot!, i can get the key in but then its too ahrd to twist to unlock and i dont want to snap the key!
any ideas/tips to get the key to twist?

If your Mini is outside, the lock may well be frozen, you could try pouring some hot water on it, followed by a spray of WD40 into the key aperture. If it's not frozen use the WD40 anyway & try 'wobbling' the key & pulling in slightly in & out while trying to turn it.

IF you pour hot water - then you must spray in wd40 - or it will just freeze again.

i have the same problem but it wont lock and its not because its frozen its been like that for a while but doesnt really bother me thought i would ask though while theres already a thread on the go sorry for hijacking :lol:

if i want to get in there do i need to drill out the lock and replace it?
what mk is my mini its a 1989

If you want to get in there, just remove the 4 boot screws from the hinges and the lid will fall off.

It more than likely needs the lock greasing. Just undo the 4 nuts that hold it in, strip clean and regrease.

Yea. Get someone to hold the bootlid while you take the screws out so you don't damage anything.

You should have pulled them out through the holes in the parcel shelf!!

I have to lift my key in the lock slightly as it turns to open my boot.... should have asked for a new lock for Christmas! lol :)

yeah! ive tried everything possible i think ill remove the whole boot and re grease it!

edit: are the hinges bolted meaning ill have to get under the car or are they just screwed in? cheers
