How do you get into the boot to put a spanner on the nuts that the hinges bolt onto?

so is it bolt or screw, because if its bolt surely the nuts will be in the boot too!

Have you got a spare key to try? My sisters old Mini once had the same problem and it was down to the actual key being worn out. The spare key opened it no problem.

Apart from that Graphite Powder is the best thing for Mini locks as it lubricates the mechanism properly and prevents it freezing too. (Time I invested in some).

:)

If you dont want to go breaking things, you could always call a lock smith.

just been out there... not good!

using wd 40 and a lighter on my key and stuff no luck!
if i want to get in there do i need to drill out the lock and replace it?
what mk is my mini its a 1989

toby

If you want to get in there, just remove the 4 boot screws from the hinges and the lid will fall off.

It more than likely needs the lock greasing. Just undo the 4 nuts that hold it in, strip clean and regrease.

Salted!!

they have nuts on the inside so may just spin !!

grab a hold of the handle and turn it locked or not it will open, i found this out by mistake and my brutish hand, when an ex girlfriend locked it after fitting and i just thought it was stiff :) There is a tab that will bend out of the way.

I found if you turn the key half way and hold and then turned the handle it eased the lock up from being froze and it unlocked it somehow :s

get a hammer on it that ought to do it :)

on a more serious note, try unscrewing the hinges there is a nut on the inside of the boot so get a flat blade screwdriver and put it behind the screw head as your undoing it so its keeping the nut tight to the body work at the back and hopefully it will come off :o
