You actually have to question whether a car like that is unsafe? :(

Or did I miss sarcasm?

safety is the first worry but then what happens to all the brake dust its going to look proper nasty after a drive.

I would hate to think how bad the brake efficiency is with rims that are that far over standard size.

and brake cooling with those wheels will be 0 as there is no where for the air to flow.

I'd be more concerned about the increased torque arm that's now acting on the brakes!

Not to mention the fact that clear rims look utterly retarded.

If they are polycarb, which I assume they are, I'd love to see how they are when they've seen a bit of heat and UV.

Brown, wobbly, distorted rims, how cool! SHYEAAAH BOOOI! Brrap brap brap!

As an engineering exersize they are great but there not really an opition for the really world. As for braking im pretty sure those 8pot brembo brakes and massive drilled discs can handle that.

even if they dont look the best that is some technological achievement

Sticking a piece of polycarbonate in a lathe and then drilling some holes in it? Yes it's an excerise, for a day 1 engineering student! :( 1950s plastics aren't exactly cutting edge.

Getting it so it passes the safty test is a different matter.

You'd just have to know how the material in question compares to the type of alloy the wheel centre is usually made from and calculate the thickness and distance between the bolts at the rim from that. Given that plastic companies publish their figures for that kind of thing, it's just a bit of maths and it's probably all been done by the infinite element analysis machine at the wheel manufacturer.

they are 2 inches thick so i would imagine they would weigh a lot, so i don't think people that have them push their cars to the limits and are concerned with them cooling their brakes or exploding when they are flying around a corner. I would compare them to spinners, pretty tacky and arn't really good at much, but they are popular and the dude that invented them will be rich. You have to give they guy who came up with them credit, they are original and people will love them. They arn't my style, and i would never own them. but i think if i saw a car with them i would take a second glance, and in my head i would be like, "thats pretty dumb...but awesome" and thats what they want.
