Hi,

In my case i still hold tax and mot for another 11 months. So can I put back on road before VIC test after the reapirs. or I have to through steps
1. Repair it
2. Fresh MOT
3.VIC test

or can i take on the road directly as i have valid vaild tax and mot... and i take VIC test later.currently i have my V5 doc with me only.

Brother's car was a Cat C write-off, we got it back off the insurance, fixed it and all it needed was a new MOT to be put back on the road. If it passes the MOT it has to be legal for the road. :(

you will need to take it for a vic before you will be able to tax it or get v5 back

you will have to repair it 1st but you can drive it once you have repaied it before you get a vic test i phoned vosa on fri just to make sure because im waiting for a vic test there not quick !!!

All what happens in the VIC is they check to see if the identity of the body/engine etc match up... Then they issue you with the V5.

I bought a '64 Morris Minor with body damage (dented wing/bonnet etc), put a battery on her and drove her straight to the station (had booked first) and she is all ok - only thing I've noticed is that there is no records on the V5 of having been repaired.

nope you dont need a new mot aslong as it has some and you dont need tax if your driving to your vic test someone in this topic had said you dont need a mot but you do aqnd the car has to be driven there under its own power so you cant take it ther on a trailer unless you phone them and ask if you can 1st

Hey, CAT C write off's canbe put on the road again but require a VIC cheak then obviously a MOT. :(
Stu!

Yup, a CAT C write off can be bought and returned back on the road (you will not get a V5 until you get it checked by VOSA)

What each one means:

Category A
A vehicle which should have been totally crushed, including all its spare parts.
Category B
A vehicle from which spare parts may be salvaged, but the bodyshell should have been crushed and the car should never return to the road.
Category C
An extensively damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road.
Category D
A damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road.
Category F
A vehicle damaged by fire, which the insurer has decided not to repair.
Theft
These vehicles have not been recovered and ownership rests with the insurer who made the total loss payment. They are able to repossess the car as soon as it is identified, even if it has been bought innocently.

were did u get this from as its not spot on right as a cat c is possible chassis damage (not necessarly excessive damage could be not much visual ie wings headlights etc)but can be returned to the road and a cat d is visual damage we once had a 3 yr old mondeo at work that was a cat c becouse it needed a respray and new head lights as some 1 put paint stripperall over it i think the assesers dont no what there doin to be honest

That was taken from the Internet (site found via Google) - not sure why I didn't include the link.

The Morris I said only had a dent in the wing/bonnet and was given a CAT C - I think its got a big bit to do with the age and also the value of the car.

whilst were on the subject of VIC checks, im unsure on how to procede, i have no V5 as henry has benn Cat C'd, can i still take him to be MOT'd without a V5? i cannot get a tax disc though as i cannot do it online as i have no V5 and i cannot do it in a post office either ...how do i go about (without having to have him trailered) getting him to the vic check when the time comes?

will the rozza's pull me over for not having it taxed if it has been MOT'd and im insured whilst also driving to the VIC centre?

Have you got the little green slip that comes with the V5 as proof of purchase?

If not you need to go to the post office and get the V5 application form which is about £25 i think.

As for your MOT, I rang the local police station and asked them about this. The test station has to be within a 2.5 mile radius of your house and it HAS to be pre booked. You can only travel to and from the test station. If it passes and you drive home it is possible to be fined, because you could have technically purchased tax. If it fails then you can show them the failure sheet.
