Carb is hif38 and the bottom half engine was purchased from someone on here and is belived to have a kent266 cam and had some crank work done.I just put my head on it after inspecting the bores and its run like a dream since (approx 4500miles).As Purple Tom said though rolling roads are all different.I used http://www.mgcars.org.uk/peterburgess/ and must admit although he made a brilliant job the equipment did look a little dated.

aim for a compression ratio of 10.5/11- 1 but dont go higher you will just produce more heat. i like to zero the deck for good squish but some cam/head thickness combination limit the valve pocket to ring clearence so some measurements and calculations need to be taken. i have heard of over bored 998cc engines to produce 80 flywheel bhp. and an article in keeping your mini alive about tuning a 998 produced 90 flywheel bhp using a specially developed cam with 10.5-1 ratio 12g940 large valve head ported and a hiff44 with lcb.
