A few answers as this seems to be getting mixed up..

1. An MOT certificate cannot be cancelled by a subsequent failure, it is valid until it's expiry date.
2. If your car fails the test you can legally drive it to a place of repair if booked in advance but if it is classed as unroadworthy then you can still be prosecuted for using it.
3. We can't stop you from taking your vehicle away, we can advise you of the rulings (which are always explained at my place of work) but not impound your car once you have paid the MOT fee. If you do drive it away then it is your own problem when stopped and prosecuted.
4. Read the back of the VT30 Failure sheet, the legalities are written there, if you are unsure what has failed then ASK the testing station what is expected before whinging here that it has failed and you don't know why!!

Just as a matter of interest and to all those who imported their car, you are allowed to drive to a pre arranged MOT without MOT or NUMBER PLATES. Raised a few eyebrows with the local boys in blue when I did it, but they confirmed the info and let me go, after checking my insurance....

Yes...my car had no ID. It came from Guernsey with no plates at all. Wondered what plod would have done if I'd flashed a few speed cameras...lol. Back in my distant and youthful past, I imported cars from Japan and they were iven a Deregistration number by the Japanese. We used to make up plates with this number till registered in the UK. These numbers were not traceable in the UK and I remember one night flashing all the speed cameras from Roehampton to Tolwoth on the A3...very satisfying...

thats amazing, theres one in a 50 zoen near us and the other day there was a guy who had it lowered down to service it, he had fitted a cover so that when he tested the flash it didnt take pictures of peoples cars and giving them a ticket

was very tempting, but knowing my luck he'd take it off just as i sped by
