Basically, i have a basic 998cc with a stage one kit on it. I can't afford to convert to a 1275 or buy one. Is there anything i can do to my engine to make it faster? Or even quicker acceleration? I know i can put twin carbs on it, but i've been told it's a really iffy job...

any knowledge?

Personally no, but the MiniSpares articles on their website offer a great amount of bed time reading for me.

998cc Tuning Bolt ons (Stage one)

You might find this is what your after. Further options

You may find the best gains from having a rolling roll tuning session to make your everything is set up right.

i got a respectable 62BHP out of my 998 with only a stage one, unleaded head (of unknown origins) and a very retro nikki twin choke carb. that was a good little engine.

Best and cheapest things you can do are make sure what you've already got is working correctly. Make sure the timing and fueling is spot on and the car is well serviced. Have you ever had the car rolling roaded?

Next cheapest is to shed weight! This will give you better acceleration if you shed enough!

After that you're looking at cylinder heads, camshafts, carb and ignition systems.

if your after quicker acceleration stick a lightened flywheel on

the rest all depends to whether you want to take the engine out of the car and strip it down for a change of cam etc
if not a 12g295 cooper head will give you a bit more poke

Basically, i have a basic 998cc with a stage one kit on it. I can't afford to convert to a 1275 or buy one.

buying a 1275 will work out cheaper than tuning you 998 past a stage 1 kit

Be prepared to use a LOT of petrol and make noise but not a lot of power, maybe less than you allready have.

You're right, it's about making a 998 faster.
