Twinpoint block is not an A+ block, it's a twin point block. They are a completely new casting with all the holes in different places and very very different to an A+.

Correct, just had a close look at one, and there's no where you could effective put the stand onto as the alternator mount is no longer on the block... and the oil filter where it is don't help matters...

ah jeez, well there's something new. I thought all minis had a or a+. Is it still based on the a series? I'll have to find one to look at.

Wouldn't honestly worry about the MPI.. there aint that many of them, and when you consider the palarva which comes along with the engine anyway, it does not realy spring to mind as the engine you would realy want to be doing too much to anyway... !

Loosely based on the A+, but the similarities pretty much end at the gasket faces and main bearings.

It has a built in oil filter head on the side of the block, so no filter head mounting and no oil supply pipe or threaded union for it. There is no distributor mounting as the twin point has static ignition, there is a mounting for the col unit this uses. There is no alternator mounting, well there is kind of but it's very different as the alternator is mounted to the head. There are two oil pressure release valve ports, one of which is used to hold an oil pressure transducer. There's no fuel pump mounting on the other side of the block but there is a cam phase sensor mounting in its place, and a knock sensor mounting further along between 3 and 4 on the same side. Most of the oilways have been moved about to cope with all of these changes.

I think that's about it.

Oh yes, and they're black.

like i siad I'll have to work that one out for the MPI my self, as, yes, there won't be much call for it :nugget: Just upsetting the apple cart :fear:

But I still want one :(

Wouldn't all this make the MPI block A++. It may not be an A or an A+ but it still is an A series derivative.

I noticed that when they were looking at the A series engine revisions in the early seventies that an experimental engine also sported the new oil filter possition as well as an overhead cam. the picture on the right :nugget: .

There's nothing experimental about that block matey, it's the A+ Maestro block I think. Having said that the alternator mounting doesn't look like an A+ one, it's been a while since I saw a Meastro to compare it to.

It's a great shame they only ever cast three or four of those heads though. I saw one on a car once, I'm sure it was at MITP. Really very cool (well it is without the silly emissions air pump stuck on it anyhow).

oh wow, quite a difference! i had no idea. So is the single point and mulit point the same? apart from injection systems of course. And are these the items used in the last mini's made mid to late 90's + 2k? I could never see anything into the bays in these when i looked around a few years ago, they're so crammed with gumph, not my cuppa tea.

My engineering friend has a lot of work on, on top of illness and a lack of staff but promises me he'll look at it next week!
