people should be made to ride a scooter/ bike etc before they are aloud to drive a car ...
but then there are some *melon* bikers out too ...

i can see where your coming from with this but i have heard it from so many bikers aswell, but i cant say ive ever met a biker who is more responsible than me as a driver. not one of them would think twice about doing stupid stuff on a bike and are terrible at controlling cars.
im not saying all are like this but i would never consider riding a bike, or even having a lift on the back of one

Er! I have been riding for 30 years (very nearly) and I have a 1000cc bike that is good for 170mph! One of my cars is 300hp and good for 165 and 0-60 in mid fives! I have a clean license and have had NO endorsements in last 10 years. How irresponsible am I then?!

There is 30 million drivers in the country and most of them are crap at it. You need to drive like every one is gonna try to kill you and even then you're gonna bin it sooner or later, it's just a statistical likelihood if you drive on our roads.

Drive defensively (that doesn't mean slowely) to stand the best chance of surviving! :)

To be honest that video hasn't done much for me at all.

Are we really in a situation where people need to watch something like this to remember to be responsible for their own actions?

I'll also admit I've texted while driving, but have always kept full control of the vehicle and never got too engrossed in the mobile. Does that make me a bad person? I am a very aware driver (most of the time, I'm also human) and there's a hell of a lot worse, irresponsible drivers out there. How many people regularly check their lights (more specifically brake lights) are all working?

"Oh but that's what the MOT is for"

^^ And this way of thinking is brought about because people are constantly trying to think for us by producing videos etc... :)

As a sidenote it's usually people who have had something bad happen to them or someone close to them that campaign about stuff like this. Which is selfish in the highest degree because if nothing had happened, they wouldn't give a toss about it. Harsh but true.

I've read texts whilst driving in the past. If I'm stopped at lights, I might reply if it's a short "yes" or something.

I don't text whilst actually driving though, I'm usually too busy emailing...

to be honest, I think all of these kind of things should be judged on their own merits.

I mean, if a guy was caught texting whilst sat at the lights, it's assumed "bah, idiot". I know of some drivers that are so useless that you can't even talk to them whilst they're driving. A woman I work with is horrendous. You can feel the car slowing very time she speaks, as she loses concentration. If she's taking to a rear passenger, and leans and looks at them, veering all over the road. She's a terribly dangerous driver, but not breaking any laws as such......maybe driving without due care and attention.

I think iv come up with a solution

Hire a PA to sit next to you, and dictate so they can text for you :)

In all honesty, the only times i've texted while at the wheel is when i'm sitting in a jam, at the lights, or on the dead quiet roads near my house when i'm returning home from seeing my girlfriend, usually past midnight when i sometimes make the 6 mile trip without seeing a car coming the other way.
