I'm currently re-writing the order mechanism on my site, for gearboxes obviously..

Basically two reasons, from April I'll be VAT registered so I've had to accommodate that, secondly I first designed it to be fairly simple with limited options, but over time the number of options has increased and has made it a bit clunky... but what I didn't want to do is loose the 'simple' side of it...

There are now over 1000 possible gearbox specifications available and that would be one BIG page.

Here's the original page here...

http://www.guess-wor...ox/purchase.htm

and here's the new

http://www.guess-wor...ta/purchase.htm

Comments, observations and any problems encountered please advise... (apart from there's no way of paying for one yet, thought I'd leave that until absolutely necessary >_< )

Also I've tried it in most of the 'mainstream' browsers and it seems to work in all but would like to know if you experience difficulties in any specifically.

Many thanks..

GW

Looks 'n feels like the old page so should do the job.

It also appears that you've included the surcharge in the vat calculation. I can see how it would be a grey area depending on whether it gets refunded.

The "Summary" button on the right needs sorting...pointing to a directory list.

Ignore the other options as this is in a sandbox part of the site where the links are not available....

It's just the function of the page I need a few people to poke a stick at....

They are when you specify a rebuilt gearbox as opposed to a refurbished gearbox...

Looks good John. a bit more detail than the original. The only thing that confused me was it is not clear if you change from standard diff what speedo correction is needed. Otherwise pretty good

Yes did think about this myself.... was original going to put wheel size and speedo tpm selections in, but this got wholly more complicated, and I have a page on the site which sorts that out for you already...

Given time there will be 'float over' description boxes or "?" for more information thingies which will explain or guide...

Using AOL: Everytime I select an option from one of the drop down lists it refreshes the page and takes me back to the top, so I then have to scroll back down to where I was. After the first couple items it got really annoying...

Just had a quick gander, only think ive noticed is the page reloads each time an option is checked, might be my connection but its quite a slow refresh - perhaps ajax could speed that up, also if i switch to simple view it forgets the year etc.

looks good but as said the page refresh after each option gets abit boring, some client side code such as ajax (as mentioned) could make it less frustrating

I would suggest you give customers a better explaination than " about £200's worth of parts" as that does not answer the question. As you are just becomming VAT registered, obviously your business is growing, so please do not undo your good work by treating potential customers in such an off hand manner. This is meant as constructive criticism form a retired CEO of a multi national group of companies.
