Personally i prefer the older one. To me its easier to use and easier to read.

plus on Google chrome the new box title bits don't line up properly.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between rebuilt and refurbished?

about £200's worth of parts...

I would suggest you give customers a better explaination than " about £200's worth of parts" as that does not answer the question. As you are just becomming VAT registered, obviously your business is growing, so please do not undo your good work by treating potential customers in such an off hand manner. This is meant as constructive criticism form a retired CEO of a multi national group of companies.

Apologies, but it's the function of the page which is in question...

If you go to the live site, you will see all the options down the side are active where you can read all about what Guessworks does as a service, detailing both the refurbished and rebuilt specifications... one would normally expect a customer to read about the product before launching into a purchase scenario...

To the other comments, yes, AJAX is a way forward.... problem is my broadband is not slow therefore I don't notice the reload 'flick' so much... will investigate...

Not tried with google chrome... will download a copy... I know IE is a bit 'funny' about dom standards and the formatting is not quite 100% in that... looks good in Firefox >_<

But..

Do you think being able to just select your Year / Model is a good enhancement, basically, looking for the I need a gearbox for my mini type customer rather than probably what Darkscamp was looking up, where the 'advanced' options come into their own... ???

Its a great enhancement... makes life much simpler, especially for those of us who dont know a con rod from a turkey baster.

My typical scenario (and in turn ideal site) would be where you could select Year / Model, then just tick the bits you want changing/refurbing etc and it tallys up the total - that way I could play around and think right option A costs x amount and option B with extras 1 2 3 costs y amount (if that makes sense)

I know thats similar to what you have going on with the beta so :D (I just need a dumbed down version lol)

Perhaps a tickbox that says "Convince GW to rebuild my auto box" too would be nice >_<

Works on the iPhone. The 2nd box on the left the title is slightly cut off and then same on the advanced page. But it's hardly anything

Works on nokia N97 as well and it's just the title of the box on the advanced page that gets slightly cut off. Everything on the first page is fine

There is no option for the mini designer, under 1988 :tumble: Other than that, works great.

I like the feel of the old page more to be honest, the check boxes just made it easy. But I can see how for a standard box the new version is MUCH better as it gives you the option to put in your Mini details. However just as has been mentioned I think on this page you should mention the differences between rebuilt and refurbished. The only issue I had other wise is when I selected "Exchange Surcharge" the page changes to Advanced view, and this was VERY annoying.

Also just out of interest do you not offer 5 speed boxes?

Pages now being rewritten using AJAX, the 'basic' is 99% done, and is a lot slicker... Now starting on the Advanced page...

The flick from Basic to Advanced when changing either the shipping or surcharge will no longer happen when complete.

Will post an update when mk2 is complete... as I said this is only a beta, needed peoples opinions which have been received and understood...

Many thanks

Well, there I was ready to deploy mk2 of the code, all ajax'ed up and looking stunning ( and working well ) in Firefox.

and then I tried it in other browsers, Google Chrome excellent, Opera like wise... and even Safari was acceptable..

But to my shame IE and AOL absolutely nothing.... all the ajax code written is not supported.... What a piece of **** browser....

So. Plans on hold...

Old Order system remains....

Thanks to all which contributed... I'll have another go when I can spend another 2 days rewriting the code to work in a non-DOM standard browser...

Thanks Micro$oft....

OK... I've beaten IE into submission....

Only the 'Basic' is available at the moment.... but please have a go and see what you think now....

Yeah IE is terrible at standards compliant code. You could just a bit of javascript to detect which browser the user is using and then re-direct them to the relevant bit of code... Of course better option is to find the 'fixes' for IE and incorporate them into the code.

If it wasnt for IE's very loose grip on web standards coding would be so much easier. I built a business management system for my works and it was easier to block access to IE on the works PCs than to degrade the code to allow it to work.

Not sure which current version you've got up now.. bit lost.

But REALLY like the feature for a straight replacement of gearboxes for standard or close to standard mini's. As people have pointed out, many just want a simple gearbox replacement/refurb etc. Ie. the chose year/mini box.

People have mentioned 'advanced' settings but i cant seem to find any way of accessing them? Also on the order details, is there any way of changing things like the final drive ratio?

The select boxes next to these options (the white dots) would only select once, wouldnt deselect and didnt seem to have any affect on prices or anything.

The gearbox surcharge box makes it simpler to understand, although I would consider re-wording it/making it more obvious to people that haven't considered it.

I'm using firefox 3.6 on Windows 7. Sorry if any of this has already been fixed, hope it helps!

beddo88... thanks.. that's exactly what I was trying to achieve.

The Advanced section is still 'under construction' which will do all the other things which you have mentioned... will get that up an running hopefully later today.
